Calling all poets!

This workshop begins with critiques of two poems, each by an author who signed up ahead of time. The workshop ends, if time permits, with a 10-15 minute writing prompt (an idea to incorporate into a poem written on the spot).

Please note that if you have never attended Jersey Plums before, you must attend at least once before you may schedule a poem for critique. To get on the schedule, please speak to a moderator at the workshop.

While critiquing poems, we will mind our P’s and Q’s by first discussing what works in the poem, and then asking questions for clarity, understanding, and figuring out how the poem can be stronger or improved. This helps to keep the feedback positive and constructive.

NOTE: The workshop begins with an explicit framing of expectations about how to participate in the workshop. New members will not be admitted after the opening of the workshop has concluded, so please be prompt.

In Writers Workshop, we critique Jersey City Writers members' short stories, novel excerpts, scripts, poems, etc. in a friendly and supportive environment.

To submit, you must attend at least one workshop. You can sign up in advance with the meeting moderator. Submissions should be 5-6 pages in length, 12 point type, and submitted three days before the meeting. We keep feedback constructive and positive.

We're located at 157B First Street, Jersey City NJ. A keycard is required to get into the building, so we will look for people downstairs until 7:15 at the latest, so please be on time!
If you know you're going to be later than 7:15, please comment below and I will make arrangements to meet you downstairs.

It beats in our chest, resonates beneath our fingertips, and transforms the ordinary. With each tonal shift, sound becomes something we not only hear but feel.

Join us for Resonance: The Shape of Sound, an immersive evening where you’ll witness the effects of vibrations firsthand, then step into rhythm itself—exploring how movement and melody intertwine sound, breath, motion, and collective experience. Throughout the night, you’ll engage in unexpected ways, testing perception and deepening creative intuition. As we guide you through these immersive encounters, you'll have time to reflect, explore, and transform how you experience sound in storytelling and beyond.

We look forward to sharing this journey with you—where rhythm will be felt as much as it will be heard.

Light food will be served as well as wine and/or beer. Please feel free to bring your own food and beverage to enjoy during the experience.

Suggested donation is $10. We are happy to accept more ;-) but please don't feel you must pay to attend.
