What we’re about
The group meets monthly on Sundays in Liverpool city centre and is for people interested in writing.
Most attendees write prose fiction - long and short - but we also have writers who submit screenplays, plays, autobiographical pieces and poetry for the group to read and discuss.
We are a friendly and relaxed bunch who are here to support our fellow writers' journeys, rather than offer harsh critique.
If you are just getting started with writing, if you already write and release independently, if you are seeking to be commercially published (or if you already are!) then you are most welcome in this group.
We usually meet upstairs in the Ship and Mitre pub on Dale Street. Occasionally, some of the very varied stories and works that are shared contain mature themes.

Liverpool Laid Back Writing: November 2025
Upstairs at The Ship and Mitre, 133 Dale St, Liverpool, GBThe November 2025 Liverpool Laid-Back Writers Meetup will be on Sunday 16th November at Midday - upstairs at the Ship and Mitre in Liverpool City Centre.
Join us upstairs at midday (please hang on in the downstairs bar until 12.00...) to discuss what you have currently been writing - and do send me your work in advance (see below).
Please post to the group chat (or message me via Meetup) with a link to a short (max 1,500 word) excerpt of your writing by SUNDAY 9th November.
I will then send a message out to those attending, with links so that we have time to read it before the meetup itself.
I'd suggest posting a comment with a view-only Google documents link (docs.google.com) or a Hermit link (gethermit.com) set to be shared so that I can do this.
This month's writing prompt, for anyone who would like one:
Genre: Crime
Character: A first responder
Theme: Compassion
Of course feel free to ignore the prompt and just send in an excerpt of whatever you are currently writing!
Please do bring £2, to help us cover meetup fees.
As ever, please do RSVP if you intend to come, and un-RSVP in good time if you later realise that that you can't make it.
