- LWS June Book Club: 'Slow Horses' By Mick HerronMise en place , Scottsdale, CA
UPDATE 5/30: June Book Selection
UPDATE 5/18: New DateHello Wineauxs!
You voted and the winner for June's Book Club Selection is.... Slow Horses by Mick Herron. The theme is inspired by the best movie in the National Lampoon "Vacation" series -- European Vacation (go ahead, fight me!).
Slow Horses by Mick Herron (takes place in London)
A riveting spy thriller about a group of failed MI5 agents who, whilst they can't be fired from the service they have become persona non grata to the powers that be. One thing they all have in common, though, is they all want to be back in the action. And most of them would do anything to get there─even if it means having to collaborate with one another. This is also a series on Apple TV+ starring Gary Oldman. It's the first in the Slough House series of books. (408 pages)Winner of the 2024 USC Scripter Awards for Best Episodic Series
Parade Magazine 110 Best Thrillers of All Time
Longlisted, Ian Fleming Steel Dagger“Slow Horses is a fine thriller . . . it’s also a wonderfully funny, farcical, deeply cynical skewering of politics, bureaucrats, turf wars, and the Great Game.”
—Booklist“A funny, stylish, satirical, gripping story . . . Memorably seedy characters, sharp dialogue, complex plot. I’m hooked.”
—The GuardianLOCATION: Mise En Place - the owner will be doing a European wine tasting based on the Griswold's vacation. Expect wines from Germany, France, etc.

- LWS July Book Club: Theme - Judging A Book By Its Cover - VOTE NOW!!!Unfiltered Natural Wine and More, Phoenix, AZ
Hello Wineauxs!
It's Time To Vote for July's Book Club Selection. We're literally judging a book by its cover with this theme. Do you ever judge a book by its cover? I've scouted out 7 cool book covers (see pics of them attached here) and listed its amazon link so you can read the description and see reviews. It's your choice whether you want to vote for the best book cover or go the traditional route and pick this month's book by the story. Every single one of these books are highly rated (4+stars) both on Amazon and Goodreads. Please VOTE in the comments below. Voting deadline is the Sunday before our June Book Club meeting where I will announce the winner.
PLEASE NOTE: The book that inspired this theme was "The Wedding People" by Alison Espach. Love this cover! Unfortunately this book will not be published until late July. Let me know in the comments when you vote, if you'd be interested in a small-group book club meeting for this novel in August. Separate from our regular book club meetings. The Wedding People would be a separate vote from your main vote, if interested. Here's the Amazon Link to review.
And the Nominees for July Book Club are...
1. Real Americans by Rachel Khong
I really love this cover, I actually first spotted it at a Barnes & Noble and the edges of the pages are also printed with the design for their special edition, which is quite rare to see. The cover design represents a multi-generational story that spans decades and continents and the wavy lines represent how a person can weave in and out, discovering their true identity. 2. The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
This cover looks like a Bob Ross painting and with that Pepto Bismol pink... Is that paint or unicorn blood? The woods on the cover are painted to be both inviting and frightening at the same time representing the soul of the story, how easy it is for a child to get lost in the woods. 3. The Unwedding by Ally Condie
Who doesn't love a drive up the California coastline? That bridge is so iconic, if you know, you know. The cover art depicts the location of the story and the font is giving vintage murder mystery. Read More About This Story.
4. A Map of the Edge: Coming of Age in the Sixties by David T. Isaak
This cover has that classic 1960s advertising for rock posters vibe. The artwork is meant to depict a haunting coming of age story in Southern California in the midst of psychedelics. Explore this story more.
5. The Divorcees by Rowan Beaird
It's giving Slim Aarons in Palm Springs vibe. A glitzy cover that depicts a heavenly place for divorcees to travel in the 1950s. Explore this story more.
6. The Outlaw Noble Salt by Amy Harmon
A gorgeous sunset, mountain landscapes, and who's that man in the bowler hat? Could it be a historically famous figure? Saddle up for this read. Explore this story more.
7. Swimming in Paris: A Life in Three Stories by Colombe Schneck
The blues on this cover marry so well. The book art represents a woman's thoughtfully orchestrated swim-like movements in three parts of her life. Explore this story more.
