The Cloudy Bay Challenge Tasting at Christos' House

Details

Cloudy Bay is an iconic winery which almost single-handedly put the Marlborough region of New Zealand on the wine map when they released their first vintage in 1985. Subsequently the winery was sold to LVMH who increased the output many-fold, which, some say, resulted in a decrease in quality.

Cloudy Bay's original winemaker was Kevin Judd and he now runs Greywacke, his own winery in Marlborough. In this tasting we will start with a couple of bottles of Pelorus NV, Cloudy Bay's sparkling wine. Then Cloudy Bay and Greywacke will go head-to-head - we will taste their Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, each pair will be from the same vintage (the 2 Sauvignons 2024, and the other wines 2021) . There will also be 2 other 2021 Marlborough Pinot Noirs - from Dog Point (whose owner was also one of the original owners of Cloudy Bay) and Isabel Estate, so 4 Pinot Noirs in all. Who will be victorious?

Numbers will be limited to 12 people seated round one table, so almost a bottle of fine wine per person. During the tasting a selection of fine cheeses, pates, and other food will be served.
