What we’re about

In The Matter With Things, published in 2021, Iain McGilchrist, a psychiatrist, neuroscience researcher, philosopher and literary scholar, combines neuropsychology with philosophy, and physics with poetry. In this landmark book, he asks a variety of probing questions, such as: Who are we? What is the world? How can we understand consciousness, matter, space and time? Is the cosmos without purpose or value? Can we really neglect the sacred and divine?
For this group, I propose that each event covers one chapter in the book. The Matter With Things is a tome, and each chapter in itself could easily be published as a book, so even just covering one chapter should provide plenty of material for discussion.
Even if you are not able to read the chapter before the event, McGilchrist does have a discussion on it available to watch on YouTube, where he conducts a dialogue with the Spanish neuroscientist, Alex Gomez-Marin.
