Workshop: Camera Settings

Details

Get To Know Your Camera

On the Camera Settings workshop you will learn how to get the most out of your digital camera and as a result, you will feel more confident when taking photos.

The workshop is aimed at beginners who are new to their camera – whether a compact, bridge, CSC or SLR – and who are looking for a gentle introduction into photography.

The Camera Settings workshop will put you in control of the camera by teaching you which functions to use to best capture the scene in front of you.

During 90 minutes of tuition, you will learn your camera’s most important settings.

Rid of blurry photos: learn about focus lock, auto focus points and when to use the different focus modes Make the most of scene modes: when and how best to use the portrait, landscape, macro and sports settings Take control using Program: understand file types such as JPEG v. RAW, white balance, ISO and exposure compensation Throughout the workshop, all photographic terms will be explained in a jargon free manner. You’ll understand the basics of exposure – what aperture, shutter speed and ISO are – and how the camera controls them.

Step-by-step, you’ll be taken off Auto and be guided through other modes and settings available in Program so that you can start to influence your camera’s decisions.

A further 90 minutes is given to putting the theory into practice. As the workshop moves outside, 1:1 time is available with the tutor to ensure you avoid making common beginner mistakes. The practical session takes place in Leadenhall Market and the City.

Being undercover and quiet at weekends, the beautiful architecture of the Market provides optimal conditions for your to practice your camera settings. The workshop finishes back indoors with a 30 minute review of your photos and time for Q&A.

You are encouraged to start with this workshop before progressing onto any of the others.

If you are keen to make quick progress with your photography, the Creative Composition workshop (https://www.meetup.com/the-photo-school/events/46593172/) takes place in the afternoon 2-5pm.

Complementing each other, the workshops have been designed to give you a full day's introduction - both technically and creatively - to your hobby.

When taken together on the same day this qualifies you for a £5 discount off each workshop; that's 6 hours of photography for £80.
