Hudson River Lighthouse Series

The Rondout Lighthouse at the entrance to the Rondout Creek is actually the second iteration as we'll see paddling past the foundation of the original much closer to land which had sloop ram through it one night requiring some renovation so only the round granite foundation survives.

We launch by 12:00pm sharp from the Rhinebeck Town Ramp. Be sure to arrive early enough to get your boat unlimbered and your kit squared away. No guarantee on relief facilities at the launch so attend to needs before arrival.

The float plan is to cross the Hudson as a group to the Lighthouse - back across the mouth of the Rondout so as to paddle the south side of the jetty to the old lighthouse foundation - through the Sleightsburg cut into one of the barge graveyards and then continue up the Rondout creek to the Eddyville dam and fish stairs. 2pm high tide will provide a boost both ways on this approximately 8 mile trip.

Paddle garb of the day will be weather dependent. 14'+ touring/sea or surfskis sort of trip for group pace parity, sprayskirt, self rescue kit, personal provisions, hydration and touring kayak with front/rear bulkheads/hatches mandatory.

This event is to benefit The operationdeepblue.org 2026 Expedition and minimum donation of $30 per person is requested payable to ;
