I love this face-off idea. Find a connection between two films then pit them against one another in a Sad Losers Showdown. Will we name a winner? Maybe. How will the winner be decided? Who’s to say. Will we have an organized vote? Probably not. Ultimately none of this will matter because in our own minds, especially as more time passes, Karl and I will both claim we won.
As mentioned in the last event posting, this is part 2 of the Brienne versus Karl Best Picture featuring Obsessed Men in the Desert Showdown. Admittedly I haven’t seen Lawrence of Arabia, so my film gets my vote by default. My entry, and the other half of this first face-off is, The Hurt Locker (2008).
Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this edge of your seat thrill ride of a film not only took home the Best Picture Oscar but an additional 5 including Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing. With an all-star cast I think this will be an excellent complement to the epic that Karl is presenting on Jan 22. Also, by sheer coincidence, it’s my second Jeremy Renner film in a row. Sometimes these things happen.

The Hurt Locker (2008) is available to stream on Prime Video, Netflix, and Fawesome, and is available to rent on most VOD platforms.
