The Sad Losers Movie Club

With summer in full swing there's no better time to discuss John Boorman's classic, Deliverance (1972). This is the one that made Burt Reynolds a star and there's sooooo much more to this movie than that one scene that everyone remembers.

There are a lot of reasons to love this movie, not the least of which is that it holds up over 50 years later. Very interested to see what people think of this one.

I have not seen Godzilla Minus One (2023) yet.

All I do know is it has a 98% Rotten Tomatoes Score with Critics and Audiences. And it won the 2024 Academy Award for Visual Effects.

I know little to nothing about Kaiju Film, so I am setting myself a challenge to learn a bit. I'm hoping some of you more educated on the topic turn up and set me straight.

With a sequel (36 years in the making) set to premier in a couple of weeks, there's no better time to discuss Beetlejuice (1988). This is my favorite Tim Burton film and possibly my favorite Michael Keaton performance...it's also the only other film besides Dune that features sand worms. I'll take this one any day over Dune...sorry.
I've been watching this movie since I was a kid. I've lost count of how many times I've seen it but it still makes me laugh "and keeps getting funnier EVERY SINGLE TIME."

Join us as we discuss this Oscar winner (yes, this film was recognized by the Academy) and let's keep it brief cause "I gotta do a photo shoot for GQ in about an hour and a half. Yeah, they've been after me for months. Doin' some underwear deal...."

I love a good heist movie and I think Dog Day Afternoon (1975) is my favorite. Add to that it's a true story AND the events occurred on August 22, 1972...exactly 52 years ago to the day of this discussion! How's that for planning?!

This is also the first of Sidney Lumet's movies that we've covered in this group...but definitely not the last.

There's so much to discuss with this one and it goes in some very unexpected directions. Here's where I include my standard disclaimer:
