"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist. And like that... he is gone."

Join us for a discussion of Bryan Singer's 1995 crime thriller The Usual Suspects. Christopher McQuarrie's first movie (writer), this film boasts an incredible cast and is the movie that sparked my love of movies. Buckle up and forget everything you think you know. This is going to be fun!

This one is available to stream on PlutoTV, Hoopla and FreeVee, and is available to rent on most other VOD platforms.

***Please note that we watch the film before attending the discussion and the Zoom registration link will appear on this page AFTER you RSVP to this event.***

  • Blue Collar (1978) - "Tell me about how you like the workin' man."

"They pit the lifers against the new boys and the young against the old. The black against the white. Everything they do is to keep us in our place."

A bit of a departure from our usual fare, this week we're discussing Paul Schrader's Blue Collar. I wanted to get in a movie about unions in recognition of the WGA strike which, at the time I'm drafting this note, remains ongoing with the potential for severe deleterious effects on the film industry and even those industries not so directly related.

There's no shortage of union movies to choose from (Norma Rae is the first that comes to mind), but I wanted to show something a little more challenging and frankly, not PG. Blue Collar is a gritty 70's film with a great cast (Pryor, Keitel and pre-Alien Kotto!). And while not without its flaws, there are definitely a few cringeworthy moments, it remains a great watch with plenty of relevant topics and themes to discuss. Hope to see you there!

Blue Collar is available to stream on Showtime, DIRECTV and Fubo, and is available to rent on most VOD platforms.

When it comes to viewing comfort food there is only one cheese and cracker morsel I return to again and again. The Wrong Trousers (1993) is my favorite piece of film making ever. This Oscar Winner for Animated Short is my ultimate re-watchable.

Our new friend Kallie feels the same way about Harvey Krumpet (2003) – another Oscar winner. I watched this again recently and completely understand why.

We are very much looking forward to discussing these two magnificent shorts and Claymation in general.

But I am most interested in hearing about your Movie Comfort Food!

    Bring it – share it!

Harvey Krumpet is available on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ClRsCpQfTQ

The Wrong Trousers is part of Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Collection on Amazon Prime.
