San Francisco Food Bank - 25 Volunteers

We will be helping to sort, package and distribute nutritious foods for the community with the SF Food Bank. 5:45-8pm on Wed., December 19th. After our hard work (often it's repackaging bulk rice or beans into smaller bags) we can reward ourselves with beverages (sangria, beer, etc.) and/or tapas at Poquito. If you RSVP yes to this, please make sure you show up or change your rsvp if something comes up, as this is organized by the number of volunteers they have scheduled. I will be tracking no-shows. NOTE: If you are bringing guests that include children, they must be 11 years of age or older.

The San Francisco Food Bank works to end hunger in San Francisco. They provide donated and purchased food to over 600 non-profit agencies, enabling them to give nutritious meals or supplemental groceries to thousands of low-income families and individuals in our community. These agencies range in size and mission, from the city's largest soup kitchens to smaller agencies such as after-school programs, AIDS service providers, battered women's shelters, child care centers, food pantries, health clinics, homeless shelters, residential programs for people in recovery or transition to independent living, senior lunch programs, and street outreach programs. They are the largest distributor of food to non-profit agencies in San Francisco; for many agencies, they are their only source of food. This year, they will distribute nearly 33 million pounds of food, or enough to provide 70,000 meals a day.

ATTIRE: It's important to dress in layers, as the temperature in the warehouse is often cool. Because you'll be helping to repack food, please wear casual and clean clothing, long pants, securely fastened jewelry, and comfortable (no open-toe) shoes. Anyone wearing sandals, flip-flops, or any other shoe with an open toe will not be able to participate in the project.

NEW PARKING INFORMATION: Weekday volunteers: Street parking is free, and our block has a new 4-hour time limit-- perfect for our volunteer shifts! Please utilize available street parking first so that our agency shoppers can use our parking lot to load their vehicles. If street parking is full, please pull into our lot to check for spaces. Evening and weekend volunteers: You're welcome to utilize our parking lot as agencies do not shop at this time. Additional street parking is free and abundant.

WHERE TO REPORT: We ask all volunteers to sign in upon arrival. For weekend shifts and evening shifts, please report to the south side of the building, entering through the central pedestrian door. Signs will direct you to the volunteer break room.
