About us

The Sound and Energy Healing Meetup has been set up to provide a place for providers of related healing modalities to promote their meetings and gatherings; as well as providing a place for those individuals wanting to be notified, wanting to learn more and and wanting to participate in such gatherings.

There is a growing recognition of the importance of sound and vibration as the underlying energies in creation and therefore, when brought into balance, underlying our well being. The intention here is that folks participating in this Meetup will grow as a group and, over time, develop a powerful healing synergy for Santa Fe as we get to know and support each other.

Providers of sound and energy healing modalities in the greater Santa Fe area can request to become an Assistant Organizer. Once an Assistant Organizer you will be able to set up and schedule your own Meetups, be able to communicate with the members, and be able to access the many other services available on this site. You and those in your groups will be able to post photos of your work and gatherings, illicit comments and host discussions.

I welcome your ideas & support for the objectives of this site.

Each Chakra is meant to rotate at 33,000 rotations per second. Different Drummers Drum Circle

DRUMMING WORKSHOP
Announcing two of my drumming workshops in February. One workshop will take place on three consecutive Saturday afternoons at 2PM. February 10, 17, and 24. The other workshop will take place on three consecutive Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM. February 6, 13, and 20.
The fee for the entire, 3-part workshop is $75. paid in advance. As long as six people sign up, the workshop will take place. The maximum number of participants is 12.

The first part of the workshop is "How to hit a drum and play well with others." This first section is 90 minutes long. The second part is "Creative Drumming," where I share my approach to improvisational drumming. This section is two hours long. The third part is "Putting it all together," and is 90 minutes long.

If you should miss a class, you're welcome to take that class the next time I teach it. Experienced drummers who don't need the basics are welcome to take only the 2-hour Creative Drumming class for $35.

I'll need to know which workshop you're interested in (afternoon or evening) and whether you'll bring your own drum or if you'll need to borrow one of mine. I'll be keeping two lists: One for people who express an interest and the other for people who have paid.

NOTE: Our actual drum circle schedule is the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. Meetup interprets that as "every two weeks," which is inaccurate.

Different Drummers Drum Circle is a novice-friendly drum circle that meets twice monthly in Santa Fe. It is hosted by Rick Cormier, a retired psychotherapist, and author of the book, "Freestyle Community Drum Circles."

Our Mission

"Ours is an open, freestyle community drum circle. We are a diverse group of people sharing a common experience. During the process of creating music together, we create community. Our emphasis is on intuitive, improvised, and dynamic rhythms rather than rehearsed or traditional ones. We welcome your 'voice' in our group song.

Drumming is fun. Drumming can change your mood and connect you powerfully with others. Drumming can entrance and heal. Drumming can provide a vehicle for expressing joy, frustration, and peace. Drumming can raise energies and provide relaxation. Whether we participate in the spiritual experience, the emotional experience, the musical experience, or the social experience, drumming can bring a dozen hearts and souls to a dozen destinations. Yet we journey together...as a community."

Last week, someone asked me why some people claim that drum circles are meditative. Here was my response:

"Group drumming is meditative because, to drum from your HEART, you have to turn off your HEAD: the very goal of mindfulness and being in the 'here and now.'

Depression takes place in your head. So does anxiety. So does all of that guilt, self-reproach, and self-criticism that many of us experience.

Many people "zone out" during drum circles. They get lost in the rhythm, like with chanting, freestyle dancing, and meditating, where we learn to ignore our thoughts in favor of being in the moment.
