Sunset Walk at Royal Palms Beach & White Point Nature Preserve in San Pedro

Details
Meet up & Social Time: 5:45 p.m.
Walk Time: 6:00 p.m.
Park on the street. Meet on the sidewalk by the White Point & Royal Palms Beach SIGN (on the ocean side of the street).
Directions: Reach White Point Preserve from Western Ave. where it meets 25th St. in San Pedro. Keep driving straight down Western; the road curves to the left, and you will quickly arrive at the preserve. Or if you are coming from 25th St., turn left at Western and arrive at the preserve. There's almost no traffic all along Paseo del Mar from Western to Pacific because of the sinkhole. The road dead ends in front of the fenced sinkhole and the entrance to the parking lot. Royal Palms Beach is a very interesting place with a rich history. White Point is a preserved area across the street from the ocean, containing restored native habitat. The preserve's trails open up to amazing ocean views. (White Point is also notable in San Pedro's history, and among other things, contains remnants of WWII structures.)
There are various trails on the preserve, so depending on the group's wishes, our Monday walk can be easy or moderate. Expect a couple of climbs as we follow trails around the Preserve.
After we follow our chosen route, we will leave the preserve and cross over to the ocean side and walk along the bluff to admire the gorgeous sunset. Then we can go for Mexican food-- or when the weather is warmer, sit on the benches for a picnic.
As the days get longer, the walk time will get later, so we can enjoy the sunset. Believe me, it's worth it!
Enjoying nature, walking together, getting exercise, -- that's the way to start the week right. Sharon
