Medium Malaga Cove through Agua Amarga Reserve Hike
Details
New Years Resolution? Didn’t celebrate enough last night? Get up, get out and indulge in a little masochism. This is a “Lawrence from Torrance” inspired hike. A few of us (Anita, Sandy, Kay and I) decided to cheat the downhill by staging a car near the top of Hawthorne and shuttled.
We will meet at the corner of Eddinghill Dr and Loma Dr. (Try to spread out and look inconspicuous when you park). We will then shuttle the group to Malaga Cove.
This is a challenging 8 (or so) MILE HIKE on trails and streets with 1500 feet accumulated gain!
The hike will start at Malaga Plaza after assembling. We do the Hill, Hills thing and march to the Olmsted trailhead and continue along the Del Sol Fire road to the Douglas and Apsley trails. These trails overlook Bluff Cove with exceptional panoramic views. Our hike will continue on the scenic bluff trails along Paseo del Mar to Lunada Bay.
We will continue to the Lunada Canyon Trail which travels through the 59-acre Agua Amarga Reserve. Walk the trail, enjoy the ocean and canyon views, and appreciate the results of many volunteers’ trail and habitat restoration efforts in this tranquil neighborhood canyon.
Emerging from the trail we'll stroll through a beautiful residential neighborhood in Rancho PV back to the cars.
Wear lug sole shoes, bring a snack and at least 2 liters of water. Intermediate plus hike. Be in good shape for a brisk paced hike with elevation gain. Hike is 3 1/2 to 4 hours depending on speed of the group.
Hike limited to 20 people.
Meetup time is 7:45am. We will start the shuttle at 8:00am sharp.
Since it is New Years Day you will need to go home and stuff yourself before the NCAA Football semifinals. This way you will have “earned” your calories.
Anyone on the "Going" list who is a “No Show” will be taken off the “Going" list for events they have signed up for the following week. After 3 "No Shows", you may be removed from the Meetup group.
Please be sure to change your RSVP to "Not Going" by 7:00 pm the night before, if you cannot attend. People who repeatedly cancel the day of the hike, or very late the night before, may also be removed from events they have signed up for the following week.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding of these rules to allow a safe Meetup which the maximum number of people may attend.
