Alrighty... since the pandemic has been effectively declared over by our state government, I'm hopeful enough people now feel safe enough to attend in-person gatherings.

Unlike prior meetups where we met in a coffee shop, we're going to meet in a park. Logistically, it's just easier, and people can still physically distance if they'd like to. So bring your picnic blankets, chairs, beverages, and snacks.

For the location, we will meet in El Dorado Park West, in Long Beach. This park is along Studebaker, between Willow and Los Arcos. I'll do my best to grab a picnic table near the Duck Pond. As we get closer to the date, I'll let attendees know how to locate me (banner, balloons, etc).

Note: El Dorado Park West is NOT the nature center nor is it the regional park. There is no entrance fee. Just park on Studebaker or in the parking lot by the duck pond.

AGENDA

  • Introductions & general discussion regarding what this group will be about and the lessons I learned from this group's prior activity.

  • Topic #1: Judging in our local Science & Engineering Fairs - Tales and thoughts on my time an Applied Mechanics judge in the OC, CA, and International Science & Engineering Fairs. While the 2021 fairs are over, perhaps you'll think about judging in 2022.

  • Topic #2: TBD.

  • Open discussion: Ideas for future topics, field trips, etc.

COVID disclaimer: Because some may be wondering, here's my COVID philosophy for these meetups. We're all adults, and we're all responsible for our own health. We're meeting outside. If you want to wear a mask, please do. If you don't want to wear a mask, please don't. If you want to physically distance, please do. If you don't, please respect those who do. Your medical history is none of my business, so I will NOT be asking for proof of vaccination or negative test.
