We’re heading out after dark to see what’s happening in the ponds at Three Brooks — newts showing off their courtship moves underwater, frogs and toads migrating and possibly spawning, depending on the weather. We’ll probably also spot some aquatic invertebrates (ever seen a mosquito larva?) and hear some nocturnal birds.

This will be a relaxed, torch-lit wander around the ponds and reedbeds with a licensed ecologist (7+ years) who knows what they’re looking at — expect ID tips, migration and courtship behaviour explained, and beautiful night time nature scenes.

We won't be touching any of the animals we see, just observing them and keeping disturbance minimal for their wellbeing.

⸝

🕖 Plan
•7:00pm meet at the main entrance (pin sent after sign-up)
•Steady loop around the ponds with lots of stops
•Optional pub/café warm-down afterwards

⸝

🎒 Bring
•Boots (it’ll be muddy)
•Torch/head torch (bonus points for red light)
•Layers + waterproofs
•Water / flask
•No dogs this time — ponds are sensitive

⸝

👣 Access

Mostly flat, can be slippery + uneven in places, so you’ll want comfy walking boots or waterproof shoes and waterproof trousers if you have any.

⸝

☔ Weather

If it’s very cold, very windy or raining heavily, we’ll postpone for the next mild evening — amphibian activity is not as exciting in bad weather.

⸝

If you’re up for some spring nightlife that isn’t the pub, come along.

It’s surprisingly magical how much is going on once you slow down and your eyes adjust to the dark.

Can’t wait to see you there! 🐸✨
