0 to Agentic: Build an API Test Suite With an Agent | 6th NA Huddle
·OnlineOnline36 attendees from 14 groups# Zero to Agentic: Build an API Test Suite With an Agent, From Scratch
Watching an agent generate tests is one thing. Building the entire setup yourself, seeing it fail, and understanding how it recovers is much more useful.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll start with an OpenAPI specification and a terminal and build an agentic API testing setup from the ground up. You’ll move through the full loop: connecting an MCP server, giving the agent your testing standards, generating contract tests, running them, handling a failure, and repairing the test.## Event Details

## Session: Zero to Agentic: Build an API Test Suite With an Agent, From Scratch
Speaker: Somu Suryanarayanan
The workshop begins with an OpenAPI specification and a real endpoint.
Somu will show how to connect an MCP server and create a skill file that captures assertion and error-handling standards, then use that setup to generate and execute a contract test suite.
You’ll also see what happens when the agent encounters a `422` response. Rather than stopping at the failure, the session will show how the agent interprets what went wrong and corrects its own test without human intervention.
The workshop then moves into AI-assisted CI failure triage, showing how an agent can analyse a failed CI run, identify the root cause, and explain the failure in language that non-technical stakeholders can understand.
The session will also cover the costs, limitations, and situations where this approach should not be used.## What You’ll Take Away
- A practical mental model of MCP that can transfer across tooling contexts
- A skill file encoding assertion and error-handling standards
- A contract test suite generated from an OpenAPI specification
- First-hand experience of an agent diagnosing and repairing a failing test
- A repeatable pattern for AI-assisted CI failure triage
- A clearer understanding of the costs and limitations of agentic testing
## How This Huddle Solves Your Problem
If most agentic testing examples you have seen stop at test generation, this workshop goes further.
You’ll see how the pieces fit together from the beginning: how testing standards are provided to the agent, how tests are generated from an API specification, how failures are interpreted, and how the same setup can support CI triage.
The session is also designed to make the boundaries clear. You will see not only what the agent can do, but where this approach becomes costly, unreliable, or inappropriate.## Why Show Up on 06 October?
This workshop is for people who want to understand the mechanics of agentic testing rather than only see the finished result.
You’ll be able to follow the complete workflow, ask questions about the decisions being made, and see how MCP, skills, test generation, failure handling, and CI analysis connect in one practical setup.
Just as importantly, the session will include the limitations and trade-offs, so you can judge where this approach may or may not fit your own testing workflow.## Become a Speaker at The Test Tribe Events

Why this session, and why now
Software is becoming less predictable, and harder to test.
AI coding agents are writing more code than ever, and much of it is never read closely by a human. At the same time, production environments keep getting more complex. Modern applications depend on dozens of internal services, third-party APIs, payment gateways, identity providers and data platforms. Integration-heavy architectures like these make it close to impossible to isolate a single component and test it properly.
For most teams, the result is familiar. Tests wait on shared environments that are slow, unstable or booked by another team. A dependency is down, rate-limited or hasn't been built yet. Simple mocks drift out of date and stop reflecting how the real system behaves. Meanwhile, the speed of AI-generated code means there's more to test, more often, with less time to do it.
This session looks at how to break that bottleneck.***
What the session covers
WireMock CTO and co-founder Tom Akehurst and Head of Solution Engineering Dan Perovich will start with the current state of test environments and how AI is changing software quality. They'll talk about what works, what's breaking, and why many existing testing strategies don't hold up once coding agents are part of the workflow.
Most of the session is hands-on. You'll see a step-by-step live demo of how to use modern, AI-enabled tools to build high-fidelity simulations of your production systems. These simulations behave like the real services your application depends on, so you can test rapidly and effectively much earlier in the development lifecycle without waiting on shared environments or unavailable dependencies.***
What you will learn
- The challenge of testing in high-dependency environments. Why systems that rely on many services, APIs and third parties are so hard to test in isolation, and what that costs teams in time and quality.
- Why coding agents destabilise many testing strategies. How AI-generated code changes the volume, pace and predictability of what needs testing, and which assumptions in today's test approaches no longer hold.
- The limits of shared environments and simple mocks. Where shared test environments and hand-written stubs fall short, and why they tend to become bottlenecks as systems grow.
- How to build simulated environments with AI agents and the WireMock MCP server. A practical walkthrough of using AI agents to create realistic simulations of the systems your application depends on.
- Best practices for consistent simulations that don't drift. How to keep your simulations accurate over time, so they keep matching the real systems they stand in for.
***

7th NA Huddle – From 72 Hours to 3.5: A Quality-Driven Redesign
·OnlineOnline1 attendee from 14 groups7th North America Huddle – From 72 Hours to 3.5: A Quality-Driven Redesign of Retroactive Billing
What if the real reason a system is slow isn't the amount of work it does, but the way that work is designed?
This session tells the story of a retroactive billing process in a healthcare platform that took approximately 72 hours to run at full production volume. The deeper problem was that its core calculation was tightly coupled with invoice generation, making the process difficult to test, validate, and optimize.
The breakthrough came from treating it as a testability problem first — separating the retroactive calculation into an independent stage before invoice generation. The result: processing time dropped from 72 hours to roughly 3.5 hours, while maintaining rigorous quality and financial validation.

Session – From 72 Hours to 3.5: A Quality-Driven Redesign of Retroactive Billing
Speaker: Vinitha Kalappurakkal
The session explores how architectural decisions can make a system both easier to test and dramatically faster.
You’ll explore:
- Why an untestable system can be the real root cause of slow validation.
- How decoupling retroactive calculations from invoice generation enabled independent verification.
- How a ten-gate quality framework can align validation with architecture — from data readiness and logic accuracy to reconciliation and regression.
- Why performance and quality don't have to compete: the redesign delivered a 95% reduction in processing time while maintaining existing validation standards.
- How the same thinking can apply to other slow, tightly coupled “black box” processes.
How This Huddle Solves Your Problem
- Testing a complex process takes too long? Look at whether the architecture itself is making validation difficult.
- Your system behaves like a black box? Explore how decoupling can create independently testable components.
- Quality gates feel disconnected from the system? Learn how validation can map directly to architectural stages.
- Performance improvements risk reducing test coverage? See how designing for testability can improve both speed and confidence.
Why Show Up on 4 November?
- Because slow testing may be an architecture problem, not simply a volume problem.
- Because decoupling isn't just an engineering strategy — it can be a powerful QA strategy.
- Because you'll see how a 72-hour process was brought down to roughly 3.5 hours without sacrificing validation rigor.
- Because the real lesson goes beyond billing: designing for testability can unlock performance.
- Because sometimes the fastest way to improve a system is to first make it easier to test.
