The Third Space at Excelsa — Ocean Beach

A neighborhood group here in wonderful Ocean Beach, San Diego, for people who want a reason to leave the house and meet someone new!

Everything we are running is something people do together: coffee cupping and tasting sessions, book clubs, board game nights, trivia, and morning co-working meetups. These are participatory activities with a start time, a structure, and a host. If you have an idea for something to run, bring it. Members are welcome to propose and host their own meetups here, including ones we have no hand in.

Who can join: Everyone. There are no membership requirements of any kind There is no application, nothing due, no minimum attendance, no need to be a coffee person, no need to live in OB. Whether you're a longtime OB local, new to San Diego, or just passing through on a Tuesday, show up as you are.

Fees and dues: Membership is free and there are no dues! The large majority of our events are free. Occasionally an event will have a ticket price, and only in one situation: when a third party from the neighborhood is running it like a local artist, instructor, roaster, chef, or nonprofit. In those cases the fee covers their time and materials and goes to them, not to Excelsa. We don't take a cut. Any event with a cost states the amount and who receives it up front in the listing. If a listing doesn't mention a fee, it's free!

Affiliation: This group is organized and sponsored by Excelsa Coffee Co. I'm Danny, Experience Lead for Excelsa, and events are hosted at our cafe in Ocean Beach, San Diego. We're upfront about us being a business, and we're also trying to be a real third place for this neighborhood.

Your host: An Excelsa host is present in person at every single event as your point of contact, and that person is named in the listing. Usually it's me. If you're new, coming alone, or just not sure where to go when you walk in, find your host, that's the job.

What we're about: Ocean Beach has a strong identity and not many free, open spaces where strangers turn into regulars. We'd like to help with that. Come alone, come with friends, come to learn something about coffee, or just to sit with folks who are becoming less strange. Everyone in OB and greater San Diego is welcome!
