DIALECTIC READING: Jürgen Habermas—An Intellectual Biography

Details

Join us to discuss a brief intellectual biography of Jürgen Habermas. (Link to text below.)
Widely considered to be one of the greatest living philosophers in the world today, Habermas has long been a leading figure in the fields of sociology and political theory, and is often associated with the Critical Theory of the Frankfurt School, where he got his start in the 1950s.
Habermas is now in his 90s, but we should not be fooled by his longevity, because his most recent book—Also a History of Philosophy—is also his longest, totaling more than 1,700 pages.
Not yet available in English, we will be reading a preview chapter of the book, with the intellectual biography serving as an introduction to Habermas' life and thought.

You can download a pdf copy of the biography (22 pages) using the link below:

In our first session we will be discussing pages 1 through 10.

Zoom link to be provided day of event.

The session will be led by Dr. Justin Burke, who studied philosophy in the U.K. at the University of St Andrews in Scotland and completed his doctorate on Hegel at the University of Oxford in England. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Institute for Advanced Dialectical Research:
