Walk Into the Dark: Full Moon Hike — Worm Moon + Total Lunar Eclipse

Tuesday, March 3 | 4:00 PM | South Mesa Trail Head Boulder Colorado Moderate trail | 5 miles | ~2.5 hours round trip

We're hiking up to one of Boulder's best overlooks to watch the sun go down and the full moon come up. The trail is moderate with a steep push at the end that'll get your heart rate up. The way down is easier and longer, winding through trails as the moonlight takes over.

This isn't a guided meditation. There's no breathwork circle at the top. It's just a group of people walking uphill into the dark together, which turns out to be a surprisingly honest thing to do.

The March full moon is called the Worm Moon, and this year it coincides with a total lunar eclipse. The eclipse shows up early the next morning, but we can pretend its there. Maybe this will inspire you to wake up for it?

What to bring: Headlamp (you'll need it for the descent), but we're going to do our best not to use them once we got on the main trail. Layers (March in Boulder, you know the deal), water, microspikes if the trail is icy, and whatever attitude you're carrying that day.

What to expect: A real hike with real elevation. This isn't flat and paved. The final push is steep and the trail narrows. You'll be breathing hard. That's the point. We'll take in the view at the top, then head down on easier trails by moonlight. Get a nice workout in and still be back before 9pm.

About this series: Walk Into the Dark is a monthly full moon hike series. No cost. No pitch. Just people choosing to do something slightly uncomfortable together on purpose.
