Get Dirty: Volunteer Morning at Esoterra Culinary Garden

Your hands are clean. Too clean. When's the last time you had dirt under your fingernails that wasn't from a houseplant you're barely keeping alive?

We're spending a morning at Esoterra Culinary Garden, one of Boulder's best kept secrets. They grow over 300 species of specialty produce on a few acres of city-owned land, supplying about 50 of the best restaurants in Boulder and Denver. No-till, regenerative, hands-in-the-soil farming. The real thing.

We'll be helping with whatever the farm needs. Weeding, planting, harvesting. There's a range of tasks so you can find something that fits, whether you want to go hard or keep it easy.

No experience needed.

A few things worth mentioning:

  • This counts as a workout. Skip the gym.
  • Not sure about taking off work? Check if your company offers volunteer days. A lot of them do.
  • Don't want to come alone? Bring some buddies. The more hands the better. Try to get them to RSVP so we get a head count
  • Carpooling will be important

What to bring:

  • Durable pants you don't mind getting dirty
  • Sun shirt, hat, and sunscreen
  • Closed-toe shoes and long socks
  • Layers — weather shifts fast out there
  • Bug spray
  • Water bottle
  • Snacks
