Hands In: Volunteer Afternoon — Metro Caring
Wednesday, June 17 | 12:00 PM | Denver, CO
Getting uncomfortable isn't always cold water and dark trails. Sometimes it's showing up for someone else.
Metro Caring is Denver's leading anti-hunger organization. They run a fresh foods market set up like a real supermarket, and our job is to help recreate that experience for folks who need it.
Learn More About Their Mission
We arrive at 12:00 PM for a short orientation, then we get assigned roles. We'll typically work together as a group, but depending on need we might get split up. Some roles have you interacting directly with guests. Others are support roles keeping the operation running behind the scenes. Either way, you're doing something that matters.
Donations come from Whole Foods, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, local farms, and everywhere in between. It's amazing to see all the food, all the waste, all the need, and all the support our community has to offer, all in one place.
We wrap at 3:30 PM. At the end of the shift, all volunteers are welcome to take home 10 lbs of food. That's typically about $40-50 worth of groceries.
What to wear: Closed-toe shoes required. Dress in clothes you're okay getting a little dirty. Bring a water bottle and a sweater — parts of the building run cool between the cooler and freezer.
Location: Metro Caring, 1100 E 18th Ave, Denver, CO 80218. Parking details coming closer to the date.
Capacity: Up to 10 volunteers. RSVP so I have a headcount.
This is what we do. We show up, we get uncomfortable, and we find out what's on the other side.
