Through a chance musical meet-up in Ireland, the pair meshed Giddens' 19th century American Minstrel banjo tunes and Turrisi’s traditional Sicilian Tamburello (Tambourine) rhythms together.
The duo's latest release, They’re Calling Me Home took home the Grammy Award for “Best Folk Album”.
The twelve-track album was recorded with Turrisi in Ireland during the recent lockdown; it speaks of the longing for the comfort of home as well as the metaphorical “call home” of death, which had been a tragic reality for so many during the COVID-19 crisis - GraniaThe Abbey Theatre, Dublin
Love. Lust. Power. Desire.
We all live in a network of complex relationships, with families, friends, partners and our communities. However, as Finn declares ‘Love is the disturber’ and it can upset this delicate balance, as friends turn on friends and insiders become outsiders, upending the order of our worlds.
In Lady Gregory’s groundbreaking 1912 play, Grania*, these age-old dynamics come to life, through the story of three legendary Irish figures, Gráinne, Diarmuid and Fionn Mac Cumhaill.
Reimagined for 2024 by director Caitríona McLaughlin, for its first ever production at the Abbey Theatre, Grania will connect us to our past and illuminate our present. Speaking about the play, the director commented ‘Diarmuid and Gráinne is considered one of the greatest love stories of all time. In Grania, Lady Gregory’s version certainly is that, but not in the way you might think. I’ve wanted to direct it for a long time’.

written by Samuel Beckett
directed by Vicky Featherstone
starring Stephen ReaAbout the play:
Due to phenomenal demand, Stephen Rea returns in Samuel Beckett’s solo masterpiece, Krapp’s Last Tape, for one week only at the Gaiety Theatre this October.
Stephen Rea’s critically acclaimed performance captivated audiences and wowed critics during its sell-out run in Dublin earlier this year. If you missed the ‘triumph’ of Stephen Rea’s performance the first time around, this is your only chance to see it in Ireland this year!In Beckett’s one-act play we meet Krapp, a man in his late sixties. Every year, on his birthday, Krapp records a new tape – a review of the year just gone. But on this occasion – his 69th birthday – he listens back to a tape he recorded years before.
Twelve years ago, Stephen Rea recorded the earlier tapes. He said:
I had no certainty that one day I might play Krapp, but I thought it a good idea to pre-record the early tapes so that the voice quality would differ significantly from that of the older character, should the opportunity ever arise to use it.
These are the tapes that are used in the current production.Krapp’s Last Tape was the first production in Landmark’s 20th anniversary year. It played a sell-out run at Project Arts Centre in Jan/Feb 2024.

Balally Players are delighted to bring a playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel which follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters—sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne—after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality. SENSE AND SENSIBILITY examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?
Reviews:
“…inventive, faithful, clever and hilarious. Kate Hamill’s marvelous play is one of the finest stage adaptations of a literary classic. Our Jane would have expressed her approval.” —Theater Scene.
“…rowdy, exuberant…thoroughly modern yet not at all contemporized. Kate Hamill’s felicitous adaptation gives us ageless emotions, couched in the mores and locutions of the past, yet timeless in their arduously suppressed intensity.” —Time Out New York.- Price: €20/ €18
