Bitcoin White Paper turns 10!

Bitcoin has been around for a while now, to be precise - 10 years as of 31st of October.

During this period, Bitcoin and community around it has faced many challenges from government, regulators, banks and other parties that pertain to central authorities rather than sovereignty, which is what Bitcoin advocates. Over time, with growing adopters' base, the value of Bitcoin has increased and continuously makes it a prominent challenge to conventional monetary systems.

In order to promote the first decade of Bitcoin, The Block - (probably) the only crypto focused space in Portugal is hosting a full day celebration. For this occasion we will be running an all day workshop, followed by an in-depth analysis/discussion of Bitcoin White Paper by Kevin Loaec. Right after - CTO and Co-founder of OpenNode - João Almeida will take you up to the Lightning Network session. Finally, we'll wrap up with social and informal hang out on our terrace before heading for Halloween celebration.

"Practical Bitcoin Workshop."
Stephane Roche. "Bitcoin Studio"
Focused on the practical use of Bitcoin, after this course you will understand the fundamentals of the technology and best practices of managing bitcoins. We will cover the most important things to know, how the Bitcoin blockchain works, how Bitcoin wallets work, the different types of transactions, the broader ecosystem like exchanges and main companies, etc. We will alternate between theory and practice by exploring the integration tests of bitcoinJS library.

Price of workshop: 55€ (inc. VAT) instead of regular price (100€). All coffee and tea included in the price during the day. Included in the offer, we will give you back 5€ worth of Bitcoin in order to experiment with it. The idea is to send money back and forth using wallets, command line and javascript coding!

Kevin Loaec, M.D. of blockchain consulting company - Chainsmiths (https://chainsmiths.com/) will host a presentation/discussion on Bitcoin White Paper and dwell into the challenges it introduced 10 years ago.

"Lightning Network"
João Almeida. CTO and Co-Founder of OpenNode (https://opennode.co/). You will be directed through topics such as:
Bitcoin scaling problems. Segwit, transactions batching, Schnorr Signatures, Lightning Network. Thereon LN will continue as the main topic of presentation.

18:00-19:00
"The HODL Problem"
Ruben Waterman. Founder of Bittr (https://getbittr.com/) and alumni of the Digital Currency program at the University of Nicosia. While everyone is proudly hodling bitcoin, it is important not to lose focus on the bigger picture of the bitcoin ecosystem and keep building! Improving the ecosystem does not have to be rocket science, such as Lightning, Liquid or RGB, it may just be a small service that has been hiding in plain sight all along.
