Ahobilam is a sacred pilgrimage site located in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, approximately 380 km from Hyderabad, nestled in the Nallamala Forest of the Eastern Ghats.
It is renowned as the holy abode of Lord Narasimha, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is believed to have slain the demon Hiranyakashipu and protected his devotee Prahlada at this very place.
Ahobilam comprises nine temples, collectively known as the Nava Narasimha Kshetrams, spread across Upper and Lower Ahobilam within an 8 km radius. The temples are situated in rugged terrain, accessible through moderate to challenging treks, with the total trek distance estimated at around 20 km.
The original structures date back to the Chalukya dynasty (8th century), while the present temples were largely rebuilt during the Vijayanagara era in the 15th century.
Surrounded by dense forests and rocky hills, the journey to Ahobilam offers not just spiritual fulfillment but also a sense of adventure. The site is safe for pilgrims and trekkers, though it requires physical endurance to cover all temples, especially those in the Upper Ahobilam region and Urga Sthambham, a steep cliff believed to be where Lord Narasimha appeared.Moments from past events :
