  • Firefly Foundations: Wicca 1 & Tools Classes

    Dashifen's House

This is a requested make-up session for the first in our three-part series on Wicca and Witchcraft, as practiced within the Firefly tradition! If you've already taken the course or tested out of it with our quiz, you do not need to do so again. This smaller session will take place at the lecturer's house for those who could not attend the primary session at the Arlington central library. There will be cats and a dog present, so if you attend, be prepared for pets! This class focuses on definitions related to Wicca, then a a quick "crash course" in Wiccan history, beliefs, and practices. Finally, we go over the primary and some secondary tools that you might find in use during Wiccan ritual. Completion of these Foundations classes is required for initiation in the Firefly Outer Court, though you are not required to initiate if you complete all three and don't wish to do so. Those who already have an extensive background of experience within Wicca may "opt out" with permission of the instructor and the passing of a brief quiz. This is a 101 class, but there will be topics covered from within our tradition that you may not be aware of, so if you can make it, we think it's worth it just to meet and hang out with some future friends! Cost? This class and the entire Firefly Foundations in Wicca course is 100% FREE. However, we greatly appreciate small donations of any kind, which help us cover the cost of meetup and website fees. Thanks! --- The Firefly House seeks to provide a friendly, safe environment in which all participants can engage in productive dialogue, sharing, and learning with each other in an atmosphere of mutual respect. We are committed to providing a harassment-free environment for all, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact the host.

  • Firefly Foundations 2: Rituals and Holidays

    Arlington Central Library

Join us for the second installment of our three-part Firefly Wicca class series! Wicca 2 will go beyond our basic religious foundations and focus on ritual dynamics, techniques for enhancing personal and group ritual practice, and holidays, perhaps the most likely way that you'll be constructing ritual events. If you didn't get to take Wicca 1, you can still come to this class. You can also "test out" of Wicca 1 upon approval if you have good prior experience with Wicca in some form. Either way, Wicca 2 and beyond must be taken in person, so don't miss out! The library closes at the end of this class, so please do your best to arrive promptly. We won't be able to go back over any missed material and we won't be able to stay late for review. This and all Firefly Foundations Wicca classes are free, but we are always happy to accept donations of any kind to defray the costs of our meetup and website expenses. --- The Firefly House seeks to provide a friendly, safe environment in which all participants can engage in productive dialogue, sharing, and learning with each other in an atmosphere of mutual respect. • Book Club: Aradia: Gospel of the Witches

    West End Public Library

Join us to talk about Charles Leland's influential Aradia: Gospel of the Witches. Since Aradia is in the public domain, it's pretty easy to get a copy of the original 1899 edition. There's a free HTML version here: http://www.sacred-texts.com/pag/aradia/index.htm And a scan of it on Internet Archive for download in various formats: https://archive.org/details/aradiaorgospelw00lelagoog/page/n10 There was also a new edition published in 1998 edited by Mario Pazzaglini which includes a retranslation of the Italian, but unfortunately copies of it online are pretty pricy: https://www.amazon.com/Aradia-Expanded-Charles-G-Leland/dp/0919345344

  • Firefly Foundations 3: Magic, Elements, and the Soul

    Arlington Central Library

Join us for the third, and final, installment of our three-part Firefly Foundations classes! Wicca 3 presents a theory of magic, how it might work and how you can construct better spells. Then, we discuss the elements and how they arrive within Wicca and how they relate to topics previously discussed in the foundations classes. We round out the class with a brief discussion of the soul and how Firefly apprehends it. Finally, at the end end of the class, we'll discuss Firefly initiation and what it means for those of you who are thinking you might want to join the Outer Court. If you didn't take Wicca 1 and/or Wicca 2, you can still come to this class. But you won't have met the requirements for initiation. Additionally, some of the topics we discuss here are more complex and relate somewhat to the topics covered in those prior classes. Definitely come if you're interested, but please understand if we don't have time to review prior material depending on how quickly we're moving through the content. The library closes at the end of this class, so please do your best to arrive promptly. We won't be able to go back over any missed material and we won't be able to stay late for review.
