What we're about

Thinking While Drinking (http://thinkingwhiledrinking.org/) is a group for anyone in the San Diego area interested in discussing topics that will exercise, stimulate and expand your mind - all while enjoying a drink at different locations in our beautiful county.

For each event, the facilitators will come prepared with a handful of thought provoking questions and concepts on the topic at hand, we'll see what everyone has to say and go from there...

We are not suggesting that life's difficult and fascinating questions will be neatly answered during our meetups nor that any sort of professional therapy or dogma will take place. This is just a space to meet other curious, sociable and open-minded people in an atmosphere of exploration and enjoyment.

Please check out our Frequently Asked Questions page (http://thinkingwhiledrinking.org/about-us/) for more group info. To see a list of every topic we have discussed hop over to our Topics page (http://thinkingwhiledrinking.org/topics/) and every place we have visited is on our Locations page (http://thinkingwhiledrinking.org/locations/).

Last but not least, our group is run entirely by volunteers and your donations go a long way to keep us afloat. Help support us by contributing to our Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/thinkingwhiledrinking) or buying a custom T-shirt (https://goo.gl/5mK36D) or pint glass (https://goo.gl/KbuQCR).

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you at an upcoming event!

The Psychological Traits That Shape Your Political Beliefs

Suggested viewing before we meet (9 min video): https://youtu.be/ZSJzPB4qrxU How do you feel about ambiguity, nuance, and, most importantly, thinking for the sake of thinking? On the other side, do you need to know about threats and enemies, with a preference for certainty and closure? How much of the two world views do you mix into your own perspectives? Spinoff Event- November 27th! Apres T-DAY! Bonfire POTLUCK PICNIC Social! Music!

Due to SD County, State & City guidelines, BONFIRE postponed to Friday November 27th! Stay safe, please Social Distance and wear masks for the next 2 months! Steve W, organizer of San Diego Hikers Association and member of Thinking While Drinking, invites TWD members to join in a POTLUCK picnic with BONFIRE. Bring good food to share. Also please bring some dry firewood if you possibly can! BRING LAWN CHAIRS! FIREWOOD! TWD friends will be there along with many hikers/explorers and various friendly mixed members from twenty other very active Meetup social groups! Usually over 50 rsvps as well from those other groups! Have a guitar or other musical instruments? Bring em! Fun raucous crowd last time, and last year we had EIGHT guitars playing with some fun Karaoke singers! Grab your beach chairs, some nice potluck food to share and utensils for it, cold sodas, smores or apple cider? Wear warm clothes, have a jacket in your car, maybe flashlight/lantern and some dry FIREWOOD very much appreciated! (not whole pallets- cut any up in pieces) May be a cold evening! Main courses or big entrees are best for this potluck group, bring something that YOU would like to eat, so then you know it will be there. Pre-cooked food unless you also bring a BBQ and fuel to cook your food. Or long metal cookers to hold over fire. Cut food into small pieces! Ask em to double slice large pizzas! Please specify what you are bringing in your rsvp, you can also update it in comments here closer to the event date. If you need ideas, plan something YOU like or stop by Costco and pickup a party tray or their rolled turkey sandwiches, chicken tenders, etc. Or bring large fresh pizzas! Cases of water or cases of sodas! Maybe a few could bring smores fixings? NO ALCOHOL (or glass) is allowed on city beaches or parks, they might sometime come around and check. They DID come by checking twice last year! POTLUCK PICNIC starts after 4:30pm but come as early as you can for best parking, you could play games or walk a few miles along beautiful Mission Bay while you are down there. Steve will go very early and most likely get the furthest west double picnic tables and closest fire ring. ( The Sun sets in the West, for non-scouts ) Walk the sidewalk to the northwest end and then look for us at the double picnic tables and closest fire ring nearby. 3 lanterns on table. Coming North on I-5 take Clairemont Dr offramp and turn West, crossing 5 and then turn right onto E Mission Bay Dr. Go to De Anza Rd. Coming South on I-5 you may take Balboa/MBayDr offramp (or if very heavy traffic at Balboa ramp just continue South on 5 to Clairemont Dr turn off), proceed straight on Mission Bay Dr thru six stoplights before taking sharp right turn from right lane just before entering 5 South again, West into N Mission Bay Dr, turn right at stop sign and go North to De Anza Rd. If you miss that sharp right turn and end up on H-5 South, you can still take the next offramp Clairemont Dr and get on E Mission Bay Dr going North along there to De Anza Rd. We will have an orange beach umbrella with a Red STAR mylar balloon hung on it, VVV by our double picnic tables there, with three lanterns after dark.
