Shrikant will be interviewing Spencer Greenberg on his Habit Change study and on Optimizing Everything by applying mathematics to life. PLUS we will be doing breakout rooms to work on applying the habit change method to our lives.

“Participants in our study tried out 23 different techniques designed to support a behavior change. One method really outperformed the rest...

[500 people participated in this 2 year study.]

WHAT WORKED BEST: HABIT REFLECTION

The technique that worked by far the best is what we call “Habit Reflection.” It’s powerful because it customizes itself to your personal history and experiences. Habit Reflection is all about using the lessons of your past in the present.

Habit Reflection has three simple steps:

  1. Pick a past situation where you were able to successfully change your long-term behavior or create a new habit.
  2. Write down anything you learned from this past situation about how to successfully form new habits, or any tactics you used to help make this change that could apply to your new habit.
  3. Create a brief written plan for applying those lessons to your new habit.

This fast and simple method helped participants to practice their habits 0.7 more times per week on average than others—a 140% improvement over the second-most-effective technique.”

Welcome to the series "Comprehensivist Wednesdays". Transdisciplinarity, Renaissance humanism, homo universalis, and Polymathy are some of the ways of describing this approach which Buckminster Fuller called Comprehensivity and described as “macro-comprehensive and micro-incisive”.

The introductory event from "Comprehensivist Wednesdays" can be watched on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjwTy6pGkNA

CJ Fearnley's site "Collaborating for Comprehensivism" has more information on the subject: https://www.cjfearnley.com/CfC/

"Comprehensivist Wednesdays" is a collaboration with Shrikant of the "52 Living Ideas" meetup and CJ Fearnley of the Thinking Society. Joe Bullock and other organizers and participants from the Thinking Society are expected to help organize some of the events. The format will be slightly different from ordinary Thinking Society events, but it will be similar to our Ethical Society events. The organizing team is committed to running two breakout rooms at every event so that all participants can explore the subject with fellow participants to broaden and deepen everyone's perspective.

To see all forthcoming "Comprehensivist Wednesdays" events, look at the Wednesday events on the "52 Living Ideas" calendar: https://www.meetup.com/52LivingIdeas/events/calendar/
