Details

On April 23rd, 2023, our beloved Andrea Buonincontro, aged 47, passed away peacefully and comfortably with her father by her side. Her death was caused by complications from Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Andrea was a beloved daughter and a cherished friend to all the organizers and members of the Greater Philadelphia Thinking Society (GPTS).

Andrea was best known for her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. She dedicated her career and activism to working tirelessly for people with disabilities, immigrants, sexual minorities, and at-risk children. Her passion for social justice and equality was evident in everything she did, and her selfless acts of kindness touched countless lives, many of whom have said, “She saved my life.”

Andrea had a deep passion for knowledge and served as a co-organizer of the thinking society, hosting numerous engaging discussions on various topics. Her inquisitive mind, sharp wit, thoughtful insights, and presence will be deeply missed by all who attended her meetups. Andrea also had a special bond with her Havanese dog, Bosco, and found joy in Broadway plays, especially her favorite, Les Miserables. She was also known for her talent in a crafts career in making jewelry, Amigurumi dolls, and humorous political t-shirts for her store (https://good-trouble-designs.creator-spring.com).

Andrea especially enjoyed attending Billy Joel concerts with her parents and also had a deep appreciation for literature, with Norton Juster as her favorite author and The Princess Bride as her favorite movie.

In lieu of flowers, Andrea requested donations be made to Kids In Need of Desks (https://tinyurl.com/4u8y2k7p) in her name, a cause close to her heart. Her selflessness and generosity will be remembered by all.

The Greater Philadelphia Thinking Society will hold a memorial in the coming weeks to honor Andrea’s memory and celebrate her life. She will be dearly missed by her family, boyfriend Brian, loving dog Bosco, and countless friends and acquaintances whose lives she touched with her warmth, intelligence, and compassion. Rest in peace, Andrea; we miss you.
