3-Minute Talks: No Slides, Just the Thing You Love — Biltmore Village
Details
Everyone has a thing they could talk about for an hour. You get three minutes. No slides, no prep, just talk.
A night of short, funny, oddly passionate talks. You stand up, talk for three minutes about something you love, and the room votes on their favorites. Your thing could be a very specific sandwich ranking, why otters are better than people, a deep dive into your houseplant's personality, or the history of a font. The weirder and more specific, the better.
There is nothing to make and nothing to send in ahead of time. If you can tell a friend about it across a table, you can do this.
You don't have to talk at all. About half the fun is being in the audience cheering, heckling kindly, and voting.
The Plan:
• 6:45 PM — Doors. Find the Third Place AVL sign, grab a drink, and say hi.
• 7:00 PM — Talks begin. Up to 8 speakers, 3 minutes each, hard stop when the timer goes off.
• 7:45 PM — Short break to mingle and talk about who's winning.
• 8:00 PM — Voting and awards: Best Overall, Most Convincing, and Most Unexpected Topic.
• 8:15–9:00 PM — Hang out.
Want to Talk?
• Pick any topic you love. Just keep it friendly and not a sales pitch.
• No slides, no notes needed. Bring an index card if it helps you feel steadier.
• Sign up at the door — the first eight names on the list get a spot. Message the host on Meetup beforehand if you'd rather lock one in.
• Still deciding? Come watch this time and put your name down at the next one.
What to Know:
• Free to attend. Drinks and food are on you.
• Hi-Wire has non-alcoholic options, including N/A beer and local soda. Sober-curious folks are very welcome.
• Capped at 24 people so everyone gets a seat and actually meets the people around them.
Why This Event:
Small talk is hard. Hearing someone talk for three minutes about the thing that lights them up gives you something real to talk about at the break. Come solo — most of us do.
