A Gorgeous and Spectacular Off-The-Beaten Path Red Rock Journey Through Casner Canyon to the Top of Schnebly Hill in the Coconino National Forest, Sedona, AZ!

Located in the Coconino National Forest in the heart of some of Sedona’s famous red rock country, the Casner Canyon Trail #11, formerly an old west cattle ranching route during the late 1800’s, is today a national forest hiking trail taking adventurers away from all the crowds and on an historical, “off-the-beaten path” journey, first following the Allens Bend Trail along then crossing through the beautiful Oak Creek, then journey’s deep into Casner Canyon on the Casner Canyon Trail #11 while rising steadily up in elevation for a steep, strenuous climb with stunning red rock scenery until reaching the top of Schnebly Hill Overlook at approximately 6000 feet in elevation. There from the top of Schnebly Hill, hikers & adventurers are rewarded with gorgeous & spectacular panoramic views of the town of Sedona, and all of the surrounding Red Rock-Secret Mountain, Sycamore and Munds Mountain Wildernesses!
So, if you are up for an “off-the-beaten path” journey with truly spectacular panoramic red rock views and scenery, then come out and join us for a great day and an amazing adventure…. along the historical Casner Canyon Trail to the top of Schnebly Hill Overlook in the Coconino Forest, Sedona, Arizona!
Total Estimated Hiking Distance: 6 miles RT
Total Hiking Time: Average 3-4 hours
Total Elevation Gain: Approximately 1600 feet
Difficulty: Moderate-Strenuous, Out-and-Back.

IMPORTANT DETAILS & LOGISTICS:
We will meet at the designated meet up location then carpool together up to Sedona and the trailhead.
Car-pooling with group and club members can be arranged at the meet up location on the morning of.
All carpool riders are expected to bring extra money for gas for their carpool drivers. No exceptions.
The trailhead is located at Grasshopper Point Recreation Area located along Hwy 89A, 2 miles north of Sedona. There is parking available but will be limited and fill up quickly so we’re going to get an early start to try to beat the crowds.
PLEASE NOTE***A Red Rock Day Visitor Pass is required at the trailhead. The fee is $12 per vehicle per day (up to 5 people).
There are restroom facilities available at Grasshopper Point and the trailhead.
Be prepared to get wet/muddy as this hike will require several crossings of Oak Creek, outbound and return. Strongly advise to wear sturdy all terrain boots or shoes with a change of dry socks recommended. Or pack a pair of water sandals or shoes to change into at each creek crossing.
***Please be advised….Oak Creek’s water level could be up to waist high, or it could be low and only ankle. It will depend on Mother Nature this spring. However, plan for cool water temperature.
Also please come prepared for the day’s journey with plenty of water, carbs, energy snacks and electrolytes are highly recommended.
We will take a short break for snacks and pictures at the top of Schnebly Hill Overlook.
Pictures are always highly encouraged; however, we will remain cognizant of time to ensure a group return within a reasonable round-trip hiking time.
After the hike, we will plan to have lunch in Sedona and relax and enjoy the great red rock views from the patio together at the Open Range Grill and Tavern located on 89A, then return to Phoenix by late-afternoon.

SINGLE DAY-HIKING GROUP POLICIES:
-Please be sure to read the event description and if you have any questions about the difficulty or experience advised for a particular hike, please contact the organizer. You are responsible for yourself so please ask questions regarding any concerns you might have, prior to attending the hike.
-Group Pace: On the hiking adventures, we do not trail run. So, if you average 3+ mph, you may be ahead of the group. If you hike 2 mph or slower, you may be behind the group. Hike at the pace which is most comfortable for you but please note if you lose the group, highly advise reviewing the websites and logistics information that’s provided regarding the hike/route and please come prepared.
-If you are RSVP’d for a single day trip or event, we are looking forward to your coming. If you are running late to the meet up location, just let us know and we will wait for you. However, if you cannot make it, please let us know by updating your status to NOT GOING. Please note, “No Shows” will be flagged and may be removed from future day hikes and events.
