Peak 2762, Doe Peak and Doe Mountain – New River – State Lands – Difficult
Details
Peak 2762, Doe Peak 2,681’ and Doe Mountain 2,802’ are located in New River on State Lands. The route starts just west of I-17 at the Table Mesa Road exit. As a result, we will meet at McDonalds and carpool, since there isn’t a lot of space. We will park on the east side of I-17 where there is more parking.
Meeting is at 6:45am, but could be slightly later if weather isn't too warm.
The parking is here: 33.9686, -112.1262
I checked out a second option for a trailhead on January 3rd, but I determined this is the better option to get all three summits, with the least amount of off-trail hiking.

From the parking area, we hiked south parallel to I-17 for about a mile, and then turn west and hike until we reach the base of Peak 2762. It is about 350’ and a third of a mile off-trail to the summit. We go back to the road and continue on it to the base of Doe Peak.
Once hiking Doe Peak, we descend to its saddle with Doe Mountain. Then we go north off-trail and re-join the road.
This is a 10 ½ mile hike with about 2 ½ miles off-trail. Terrain isn’t expected to be terribly difficult. Total elevation gain is about 1,500’, so there’s a lot of easy road walking.
In order to do these hikes, cars might want to have a State Permit pass. Although the parking area doesn’t have any signs, we will be parking on state lands. It is advised that those attending have a State Permit pass with them as well, although not necessarily required as this area isn’t typically traveled except by ATVs: https://asld.secure.force.com/recreationalpermit/
READ THE FOLLOWING: The Organizer of this trip is a VOLUNTEER, not a "leader". The organizer IS NOT trained in first aid and is not a bonded expert mountain guide. You will need to bring your own experience and judgment. If you want to enjoy the benefits of traveling in a group, then we suggest that you stay with the group on the trip.
The waitlist is created to give preference to hikers who have demonstrated the ability for tougher hikes and consistency of showing up when they RSVP. Those who have RSVPed multiple times and have always cancelled or been a no-show will be kept on the waitlist until others who are more likely to come are given an opportunity to RSVP. The waitlist also ensures we do not overwhelm parking, as this area doesn’t have infinite parking.
Assess the route and conditions as if you were going to do this trip solo.
About your organizer: My name is Dan. I moved to the Phoenix area in early 2017. I have organized over 200 hikes for various groups – including in Arizona, the Sierras, and Northern Nevada. I tend to choose mountain summits I have never done before. I do as much preparation and mapping as I can to ensure we take the correct trails. However, when driving to and hiking in a new area, there are always surprises and unknowns.
This hike is subject to cancellation or rescheduling due to fires or inclement weather.
