The rare HikeArizona trip log to this summit declares the vista the "best view of 4 peaks you could ever imagine"-chumley.

This is an exploratory hike, the organizers have not been here before. From the carpool location we will drive to Mills Ridge trailhead. The first 4 miles are on the AZT (passage 20) then we turn West off trail to climb the 1.5 miles to the summit. We'll follow Dixieflyer's route from HikeArizona.com. Buckhorn has an elevation of 6612ft with a prominence of 1038ft. It ranks #400 of the most prominent peaks in AZ, (if you enjoy such peak bagging trivia:))

This is not a beginner hike. Off trail bushwhacking will be involved but from the trip logs it sounds relatively tame. Please only sign up if you are an experienced hiker that doesn't fear roughing it.

We will meet at the Target in Fountain Hills at 700a, say hi and get going by 705a. Unless it's raining, we expect it will be warm in the desert by the end of February. We will end up above 6,000' ft which should provide mild temps, wear layers. There is little to no shade on the route. Be prepared with enough food and water and protection from the sun for 6-8 hours of sustained activity.

The organizers are not paid guides, by going on this hike you accept responsibility for yourself and will not hold anyone liable for any personal injury or accident sustained while hiking.
