Hike to Reavis Ranch. Superstition Mountains.
Details
Please read carefully.
Elisha M Reavis. The Hermit of the Superstitions. Lets go hike to the remains of his ranch. This is a beautiful hike in the Superstition Mountains.
We will start at the Rogers Trough trailhead and proceed along trail 109 till we get to The Ranch. We can make a stop at Reavis grave as well so we can pay our respects. Getting to the trailhead involves a long dirt road suitable for high Clearance /4WD. The views along this road are spectacular in themselves. Expect 1 to 1 1/2 hrs travel to trailhead.
We will meet at Basha's at 0630 and make our seating arrangements there. We are limited to 15 hikers as this is in the wilderness area. I will open this up to 5 hikers at first as that is the capacity of my vehicle. When someone else with a 4wd volunteers to drive we can add more hikers according to the capacity of that vehicle ,and so on.
This is not an easy hike it is around 15 miles and accumulated elevation gain of approximately 2500' with the last approximately 2 miles uphill. We will be in a very remote area. PLEASE Assess Your Hiking Abilities and your Stamina CAREFULLY. The rewards however are worth the effort. There is water at the ranch ( will need filter) The weather will be cooler up there than in the valley.
Bring: Plenty of water and food enough to sustain you all day long.Your preferred method of protection from the sun and the terrain. There may be overgrowth on some portions of the trail. Long pants may be nice. What ever you as an experienced hiker deem necessary.
