Single Arch/Triple Arch & Duplex Cave-Goldfield Mtns-Willow Springs Trailhead
Details
Here's a strong but fun hike we'd like to share once again with our 3H family. It was a hit last time we posted it, so we are wanting to lead it for those that have the day free to explore.
This hike is in the rugged Goldfield Mountains whose awe inspiring beauty easily rivals the neighboring Superstition Mountains. We prefer not to use instrumentation on our adventures, but we believe this is about 9.5 to 10 miles, with aggregate elevation gain of nearly 1500 feet. For the average hiker, we'd call this moderately difficult to difficult based on length and elevation gain. Lots of ups and downs here, as well, and the "trail" is faint in spots. Some may prefer long pants and hiking poles.
We'll break for lunch/snacks between the two arches we plan to visit on this adventure.
As with all Tonto National Forest hikes, there is a hiker limit. If you are bringing a guest, please make sure they read this post, as well, and consider whether they are a good fit for this trek.
Google has it marked as the Willow Canyon Trailhead. It is properly called the Willow Springs Trailhead. Regardless, take 88 toward Canyon Lake and turn left into the gravel/dirt lot on the left at mile marker 204 just beyond the Weaver's Needle Vista.
No formal carpool location is set, but please feel free to use the comment section below if you wish to offer/make carpool arrangements with fellow members.
SPECIAL NOTE: There are no marked trails in this region, and several trail junctions along the way, so let's try to stick together, or, at least, not get too far ahead of the pack. We will stop at each junction to assure we have everybody, but if you are ahead of the hike leaders, you are on your own. Let's enjoy the day together.
WHAT TO BRING: Water (we'd recommend at least 3-4 liters), sunscreen, hat, camera, snacks/lunch, electrolytes, hiking poles, and sturdy footwear.
Note: There are no facilities at this trailhead.
SPECIAL NOTE: Please understand, hiking has its dangers. By signing up and attending this, and any 3H events, you are responsible for your own safety, and organizers and their assistants cannot be held responsible for any injuries or other mishaps that may occur.
