3 COLORADO 14ERS - ADVANCE BACKPACKING TRIP
Details
Mt Redcloud 14,034' + Mt Sunshine 14,001' + Handies Peak 14,048' Let's bag these 3 Colorado 14ers and enjoy some of the best views in The San Juan's. Wednesday Day # 1 We will meet up for carpooling and drive for 9+ hours to TH. We will start hiking right away for about 1.6 miles to a nice campsite by a creek. Day # 2 (Thursday) early morning we will leave our gear behind and hike up to Mt Redcloud then continue to Mt Sunshine, then coming back down to strike camp and back to our cars to resupply. We will then hike for about 2 miles to our next campsite to spend the night. About 12+ miles for day # 2 (our longest day). Day # 3 (Friday) again very early we will leave our gear behind and hike up to summit of Handies Peak. Then back to our camp to pick up our gear and out to the cars (total 6 miles). We will drive for about 5+ miles to spend the night at Miller Creek CG. Day # 4 (Saturday) we will drive back to AZ. I am setting this trip to start on Wednesday and finish on Saturday but if you sign up for this trip you must have Sunday available. Since weather in CO can be very hard to predict this time of year, I am leaving Sunday available in case we have to delay our plans due to bad weather, so that we will have an extra day to accomplish our goals.
This is NOT A BEGINNERS TRIP, but for experience backpackers only! High altitude elevation sickness, potential monsoon storms, lightning, high winds, falling rocks, are some of the perils we could be facing during this trip.
