Friday Dreamy Draw Sunset Social Hike

Come join us for a relaxed evening hike at Phoenix Mountains Preserve / Dreamy Draw! The hike is beginner/intermediate difficulty and people of all skill levels are welcome! The hike is timed to catch both a beautiful Arizona sunset and to see city light views. We hike at a moderate pace where nobody is left behind and the pace and route are made for everyone. This hike is a casual social stroll on Friday night with the goal being to make friends and meet interesting people from Phoenix and beyond!

We'll take the outer loop of Dreamy Draw Nature Trail over to Perl Charles trail and head up to see the sunset from a rock vista that overlooks the park. Then, we'll head halfway up Voaz trail to see a glyph from the Hohokam and see some city light views. We'll hike back down Voaz, and come down Perl Charles trail a different way!

The route is chosen to be almost entirely shaded on the ascent. Please bring a flashlight for the somewhat easy descent as it will be dark!

Distance: 3.5 miles in and out
Time: approx 2 hours, with breaks
Elevation gain: between 500 and 600 ft
Leashed and well-behaved dogs: welcome!

We’ll meet at the area by the water fountains, which are at the largest structure visible from the parking lot at 5:45pm, and head out promptly at 5:50pm. Sunset is at 6:35ish. The meeting spot is at the top of the stairs on the east side of the parking lot. It is not the fountains at the low spot of the parking lot. Climb all the way to the top of the stairs, you will see bathrooms, outdoor sinks, and water fountains. If you need help finding us, my phone number is 303-596-0206. See you there!

Trail Composition: Compacted dirt, loose rocks, gravel

Bring: WATER (2 liters), hats and sunscreen.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: The Dreamy Draw Recreation Area is located at the END of Northern, just East of SR-51. The park access gate closes promptly at 7:00 pm but the exit gate is always open. If you are coming either North or Southbound on SR-51, take exit # 7 (Northern).
