Smith Ravine Trail #297 - 6 mile hike (in & out - 3 miles each way)
Details
Our Adventure, the Smith Ravine Trail is nicely shaded as it passes through oak and ponderosa pine forest. The trail rolls up and down as it gradually climbs from an elevation of roughly 6,000’ at the beginning, to nearly 7,000’ at the top. About halfway along the route, this trail crosses Smith Ravine Spring. The spring may be flowing during certain times of the year, evidenced by the presence of yellow columbine and other water-loving plants.
As the trail ascends into the Bradshaw Mountains, there are occasional views of the Lynx Creek drainage area to the north and east, and Spruce Mountain Lookout to the south. This area is home to coyotes, javelina, skunks, and mountain lions, there may be signs of wildlife along the trail.
We will meet at the Smith Ravine Trailhead on Walker Road (westside) at 8am.
We plan to keep a moderate+ pace, with a snack/rest break at the top of the trail, approx. 7,000'.
.
I would not recommend this as beginner's hike but more of an intermediate hike due to the gain of 1,000' in 3 miles - suitable for fit hikers.
Recommend 2 liters of water (or more), sun protection, snacks, personal first aid kit and sturdy hiking shoes - hiking poles will be helpful.
Well behaved dogs welcome.
