What we're about

Our mission is to get people moving, improve their fitness levels through fun group activities, and help them THRIVE! Whether it's a walk, run, hike, bike ride, or outdoor fitness class, we have activities for men and women of all fitness levels. If you are new to exercising or returning to it after a lapse, we have short, scenic hikes for beginners in our beautiful local mountains (Santa Monicas, San Gabriels, San Bernardinos, San Jacintos, etc.). Our Fitness Classes are designed for all levels as each participant performs the exercises at their own pace. The bike rides are usually short "no-drop" rides of 15-20 miles.
For the more adventurous, we will be having some strenuous hikes to the tallest peaks in Southern California during the summer. For this more advanced group, the hiking season culminates in September with our annual summit of Mt. Whitney, the tallest peak in the "lower 48" states.

Let's Hike Up Mt. Baldy the STEEP Way via Register Ridge

Needs a location

Join us as we hike to the summit of Mt. Baldy. This time we will take a route including "Register Ridge," the steepest trail on the mountain. It will be a strenuous hike suitable for advanced level hikers only. The total hike distance will be about 13 miles and we will be climbing about 5,700 ft. in elevation gain. On this route, we will be bagging Mt. Harwood, Mt. Baldy, Dawson Peak, and then Mt. Baldy a second time. If you plan on doing the Skyline Trail with us in November, this will be a great training hike for you. If you want to shorten the length of the hike, you will have opportunities to skip certain sections of the route.

We will meet at the Manker Flats trail head (corner of Mt. Baldy Rd. and Falls Rd.) and begin our hike as if we were doing the Ski Hut trail. However, shortly after we leave the fire road and begin the single track, we will divert off the Ski Hut trail and begin our steep ascent up Register Ridge. In 1.6 miles up the ridge, we will gain over 2,600 ft. in elevation before connecting with the Devil's Backbone Trail. From there, we will continue climbing up to the summit of Mt. Harwood.

After bagging Mt. Harwood, our first peak of the day, we will cross the Baldy/Harwood saddle and then climb our way up to the top of "Old Baldy" (at 10,064 ft., it's the tallest peak in the San Gabriels). We will then head down the North Backbone Trail before ascending our third summit of the day, Dawson Peak (9,575 ft.) We will return back to Baldy again for our fourth summit of the day and then head down to Baldy Notch via the Devil's Backbone trail. At the Notch, you will have the option of purchasing a ski lift ride down or walking the fire road back to the cars.

Please pack a lunch and enough snacks to last the day. You should bring a minimum of 3 liters of water. (There are no water sources on Baldy except at the Notch.)

This is a tough, strenuous hike for advanced level hikers only. When you rsvp for this event, you will initially be placed on the waitlist. Priority will be given to those who are going on our Skyline hike in November.

I hope to see you on this great hike.

Be well and Thrive!
