Join us for Estelle Singerman: Summer Night, With Unicorn, an award-winning play steeped in magical realism and inspired by Hasidic folktales that follows the story of an eccentric and isolated older woman who, anticipating her imminent death, seeks someone to recite the Kaddish (a Jewish prayer for the dead) for her. The play will be presented by the Harold Green Jewish Theatre.

The Play:

• Recounts the story of a relationship between Estelle Singerman, an eccentric, isolated older woman and an equally alone, emotionally disenfranchised middle-aged man named Warren.
• Foreseeing her imminent death, Estelle searches for someone to say Kaddish for her and decides that Warren is the one. They form an odd duo on an overnight journey through a Chagal-like surreal Chicago where they meet the angel of death in the form of a unicorn and a talking giraffe. By the time the sun comes up, both Estelle and Warren have found faith and peace.
• The cast includes Tracey Ferencz, Linda Kash, Daniel Kash, Micaela Morey, Ralph Small, and Sugith Varughese.
• Written by David Rush and directed by David Ferry, the play was the winner of the Jewish Plays Project, highlighting its significance in contemporary Jewish theatre.
