What we’re about

What? Who?
We welcome intrepid explorers of that most alluring and dangerous corner of American sub-culture - Tiki. We may explore Polynesian art and decor, exotica music, the precise alchemy of potions so potent you’ll quickly lose your senses after just one sip, unique vessels for your magic potions, secret societies, and lots and lots of rum. Join us to share in learning the rich history of this uniquely American vision of tropical paradise!

Where?
Our MeetUps will happen both virtually and in-person. Attendees to our MeetUps can expect discussion on specific Tiki-related topics (history, style, culture, music, personalities, art), cocktail mixing, rum, local outings, and perhaps outings farther afield.

The group has no relationship with other Tiki related groups or organizations at this time.

The group does not currently have any dues or fees. It is possible that if we run an event to share food or cocktails provided by a specific host, a small compensation will be suggested to support the host. But those costs are not tied to the group in general.

To join the group's MeetUps you must be over 21 years old.

The group's explorers must all adhere to the group's code of conduct.

## Green Mountain Tiki Explorers Society Code of Conduct
#######################################################
All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at our meetup are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code of conduct throughout all in-person and virtual events that we host. In addition, we expect our group members attending an event that we do not host, as part of a Green Mountain Tiki Explorers Society group outing, should still adhere to our code of conduct in addition to the event's code of conduct. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

The Basics
Our meetup is a harassment-free place for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of meetup participants in any form.

Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any meetup venue, including talks, workshops, parties, and online media. Sexually suggestive behavior is likewise prohibited. Some discussions of Tiki art may include depictions of nudity, and some Tiki-culture adjacent topics may include imagery of people in bathing suits. Events that are likely to include such material will be flagged as such ahead of time to let attendees self-filter.

Certain depictions of classic Tiki art, and discussions of Tiki history, may include what we know today to be racist or inappropriate imagery. Such content is discussed and viewed with full knowledge that it is inappropriate, and racist attitudes and actions are not acceptable for any of our events.

As this meetup is likely to occasionally involve alcohol consumption, we expect attendees to drink responsibly and have a plan for safely getting home if they are out when drinking. For attendees who become problematically intoxicated - the first time it happens they will be asked to take a break by skipping the next event, and to apologize to anyone that they caused problems for (such as a private host). If it happens a second time the attendee may be removed from the group (based on discussion by the group organizers). This includes virtual events.

Meetup participants violating these expectations of conduct may be sanctioned or expelled from the meetup without a refund (if the individual paid for something at some point) at the discretion of the meetup organizers.

More Details
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, and sexual images in public spaces (for example. Harassing actions include deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, taking photography or recordings without permission, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy.
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the meetup leadership may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, or expulsion from the meetup (with no refund.)

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, speak-up if you feel comfortable doing so, referencing this code of conduct - or please contact a member of meetup leadership immediately. Meetup leadership will self identify at the start of events.
