New Year Hike: Beat the January Blues 🌿

Start the year with a fresh-air hike through Happy Valley and Farthing Downs, one of my favourite walks near London. Rolling chalk downland, big open views and ancient woodland, just 30 minutes from London Bridge.

What’s included (£10)
🥾 A guided, ~4-mile hike with about 800 ft of climbing, led by a qualified outdoor first aider
🍡 A homemade marshmallow, the Toasted Fig signature
🌳 Highlights: sweeping valley views, ancient woodland and meeting like-minded people

The plan
09:30–09:40: meet inside London Bridge station, outside Pret
09:52: train to Coulsdon South (arrives 10:19)
10:20: start the hike
12:30: optional drink or lunch at The Pembroke (pay for your own)

Difficulty
Easy/moderate. This is a short 4-mile route, but with some steep climbs and descents. Paths can be muddy and slippery in January.

Getting there
🚆 We’ll take the 09:52 train from London Bridge, arriving at Coulsdon South at 10:19. You can meet us at London Bridge, or at Coulsdon South station for 10:19.
🎟️ Train tickets are not included.

What to bring
Walking boots with good grip are essential, as the ascents and descents can be slippery.
A waterproof jacket, warm layers, hat and gloves, water and snacks are recommended.
