Stepping stones, sweeping viewpoints and a proper country pub 🌿

A circular hike around beautiful Box Hill in the Surrey Hills, taking in the famous stepping stones, some of the best viewpoints in the South East, and finishing with lunch and/or a drink at a lovely country pub. Under an hour from London Victoria but properly rural from the first step.

About this hike
We start at Box Hill & Westhumble station and head up onto the hill, following a mix of woodland paths, chalk trails and open landscapes. Along the way we'll cross the well-known stepping stones and take in plenty of gorgeous viewpoints looking out across the Surrey Hills. There are a few climbs to earn those views, but the pace is always relaxed. We'll finish at a welcoming country pub, so stick around for a well-earned lunch and a drink if you can.

The route
A mix of chalk paths, woodland and open hillside with some climbs (over 1,000 feet of elevation total). Expect big views, the stepping stones, and a few climbs.

The details
📍 Meet at London Victoria outside Leon (inside the station) between 09:20-09:30 for the 09:40 train or meet at Box Hill & Westhumble station at 10:34 - option to join on the train route too eg Clapham Junction
🚶 ~5 miles / ~8km
⏱ 2–3 hours moving time (longer with stops and the stepping stones)
🌤 Followed by an optional pub lunch and drink at the end
💷 £10 per person

How to pay
Once you RSVP, I'll message you with bank details. To confirm your spot, please pay £10 by bank transfer within 48 hours (or before the hike starts, if that's sooner). Unpaid spots will be released after a friendly reminder. Please note we're unable to accept cash on the day. Bank transfer only.

Refund policy
100% refunds are available up to 24 hours before the hike, and will be paid within 48 hours. No refunds within 24 hours of the start time.

Comfortable, sturdy footwear (it can be slippy on the descents even in dry weather)
Plenty of water
Suncream and a hat

Quaint villages, ancient woodland and a proper country pub 🌿

A circular hike through the heart of the Surrey Hills. Starting at Gomshall and winding past pretty Shere, the village behind the little cottage in the film The Holiday. Expect old English houses, ancient woodland and rolling farmland, finishing with lunch and/or a drink at a lovely country pub.

About this hike
We start at Gomshall station and head out into the countryside, following a mix of woodland paths, quiet lanes and open farmland. Along the way we’ll pass through Shere, one of the prettiest villages in Surrey, with its little bridge, old cottages and, if you fancy it, a couple of lovely ice cream shops. There are a few climbs to earn the views across the Surrey Hills, but the pace is always relaxed. We’ll finish back at Gomshall at the Gomshall Mill, a welcoming riverside pub, so stick around for a well-earned lunch and a drink if you can.

The route
A mix of woodland, farmland and quiet country lanes with some climbs (over 1,200 feet of elevation total). Expect chocolate-box villages, big views and a few climbs.

📍 Meet at London Victoria outside Leon (inside the station) between 08:50-09:00 for the 09:10 train, or meet at Gomshall station at 10:27 - option to join on the train route too eg Clapham Junction
🚶 ~11km / ~6.5 miles
⏱️ ~3 hours moving time (longer with stops and ice cream in Shere)
🌤️ Followed by an optional pub lunch and drink at the end

Train Tickets - I’d recommend buying a London to Gomshall anytime day return via any route. This ensures upon return you can take the fastest route back to London which could be via Guildford, Dorking, or Redhill.
