About us
About Us
Some books stay with you long after you’ve finished them—not just because of the story, but because they open your eyes to a different way of seeing the world.
This Sarasota-area book circle was created for readers who enjoy those kinds of books—and want a space to talk about them with others.
Inspired by Together Women Rise, this group complements their national online book club by bringing those same themes and conversations into a local, in-person setting. While the online club connects readers from across the country, this is a chance to gather here in Sarasota to share perspectives and build community.
A few times each year, we’ll meet to discuss Together Women Rise selections, and in between, we’ll explore additional books that reflect similar themes.
What We’ll Read
Our selections are guided by themes connected to global gender equity and social impact. We’ll explore a mix of fiction and nonfiction, including:
Gender equality and international women’s issues
Global poverty and community-based solutions
Stories from countries where Together Women Rise supports local organizations
Women’s history and accomplishments
Memoirs and biographies of women who have created change
What You Can Expect
This is a welcoming, discussion-based group—thoughtful but relaxed.
There’s no pressure to finish every book or come prepared with analysis. Some people love to dive in, others prefer to listen at first—both are part of the experience.
Some conversations may stay reflective, while others go deeper—it depends on the book and the group. The goal isn’t to reach the “right” interpretation, but to share perspectives and learn from one another.
Who Joins
This is an open group for anyone interested in reading books that explore global perspectives and women’s experiences. While many book clubs naturally skew female, all who connect with the focus are welcome.
You don’t need to be a member of Together Women Rise to join—just an interest in meaningful books and thoughtful conversation.
What This Group Is Not
This isn’t school, and it’s not a place for literary one-upmanship.
No required analysis. No pressure. No judgment if a book isn’t for you.
Just a group of people coming together over stories that matter.
A Few Practical Notes
We’ll typically meet on Wednesday evenings in the Sarasota area. Locations may vary—often at local restaurants or cafés, with the possibility of occasional home gatherings as the group gets to know one another.
We’ll keep things flexible at the start and let the group help shape what works best over time.
A Bit About Me
I’ve been part of and organized book clubs for many years and am especially drawn to books that connect us to different cultures, histories, and lived experiences.
I’m also a member of the Together Women Rise national book club committee, which has made this group feel like a natural way to bring those conversations into a local, in-person setting.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out—I’d love to hear from you.
