TGDC6 Announced: October 5th, 3:00pm
Hello once again to all the Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club past, present, future attendees and curionauts:
Proud to announce that TGDC6 (sixth session) is not vaporware, that it does exist, and soon playable, erhm seatable as it always is.
Well lame jokes aside, we hold a session every 30-odd days, we’re slingshotting a little past 30 days into October to avoid the Tokyo Game Show at the end of September into the first week of October.
How TGDC works is you can have the chance to drop in and share what you’re playing, any thoughts about gaming, and even if you don’t really play games but swooned by the ethereal nature of them in the zeitgeist you’re welcome to contribute all the same too.
Maybe the week’s preceding TGS will give us some good topics to jettison off of or at the least where we’re all at in Silksong. Of course the beauty of this club is the main topic is, whatever you want it to be!
The club has only two rules:
1.) If you already beat Silksong before the reviews even trickled in with no pre-release review codes sent out, you’re in. If you don’t even know what Silksong is, that’s fine too.
2.) (The important one) Now…how to attend (please read this very carefully so you don’t miss our next session!!)
The Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club will meet at exactly 3:00pm in front of Italian Tomato Caffè Vigore, Komaba, the University of Tokyo. I’ll (host) try to get there 10 minutes or so early so you can see me right there to know you’re in the right place for the right thing.
I will be holding a laminated sign of our lovingly made human-made non-AI-generated logo.
Once we gather in front of the cafe at 3:00pm, we will either meet at the cafe or go to another backup location on campus with caffeinated drinks, sweets, in hand to guarantee seating, so please gather by my held sign (and self) so we don’t get separated when we head off to our finalized seating!
Apologies again that if you arrive after 3:00pm you may miss our month’s session, as my focus as host will be on holding our session once we begin.
And for a look at how the last session went here’s a recap of disco points:
TGDC5 Recap (held Aug 2025)
Topic 1: Game delays and gamer patience. Do we really not have anything else to play to tide us over until GTA VI comes out. This led to discussion about Silksong vs a Metroid Prime remaster shadow drop and the art of patience in gaming. Who remembers waiting since the first PS3 tech trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake?
Topic 2: A TGDC member gave us a potential look at the future of gaming within the otome genre as a medium and structure to harness breakthrough technologies to keep the conversation really going in romance games. Case in point the game, Love and Deepspace — the first 3D Otome game out now.
Topic 3: We’ve touched on this in a past TGDC but MGS: Delta (Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater) has us back once again debating the remake / remaster necessity or damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t approach walking the razor-thin line of renewing iconic videogames.
Topic 4: We’re a Japan-based club after all so a member introduced us to the spot-the-difference ‘anomaly’ horror gaming genre with a particular highlight being The Exit 8. It’s also now a live-action upcoming movie!
Topic 5: Finally we discussed the impact of aggregate scores on influencing our own decision to purchase games, aka the willpower pull of a 90+ game that we may not have previously been keen to try out.
If all this sounds good to you, hope to see you on October 5th!
