TGDC5 Announced: August 30th, 3:45pm

Big Hello once again to all the Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club past, present, future attendees and those interested:

TGDC5 is now happening ahead, and this time with GREATLY ENHANCED LOGISTICAL AND SEATING SUPPORT™ after four months of trial and error to sit eight people together on a weekend with air conditioning under the sweltering Tokyo sun in a city of 14 million.

So, essentially you could think of TGDC5 as the 8K ray-tracing Remastered version of TGDC4 running at a fixed-framed 60 FPS in comfy (again, air-conditioned) guaranteed seating.

Here’s again how the club works:

1.) To qualify for a membership: if you like games and have thoughts on them, congratulations, membership unlocked! And if you don’t, well, what the heck, congratulations, membership unlocked (story mode only). Anyone can join. Membership is free too.

2.) Now…how to attend (please read this very carefully so you don’t miss our next session!!)

Step 1: Please RSVP if attending (and un-RSVP-ing if you no longer can)

Step 2: The Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club will meet at exactly 3:45pm in front of Italian Tomato Caffè Vigore, Komaba, the University of Tokyo. I’ll (host) try to get there 10 minutes or so early so you can see me right there to know you’re in the right place for the right thing. Please note that we're meeting on the grounds of a college campus vs a street address so you'll have to enter the grounds to find the cafeteria, which is very close to the entrance.

I will also be holding an A4 laminated sign of the club's logo so you can spot me right away.

Once we all gather in front of the cafe at 3:45pm, we will either meet at the cafe or go to another backup location on campus to guarantee seating, so please gather by my held sign (and self) so we don’t get separated when we head off to our finalized seating!

Apologies again that if you arrive after 3:45pm you may miss our month’s session, as my focus as host will be on holding our session once we begin.

For those curious how our club works, we have a free-wheeling conversation about gaming writ large, and I try to document each session’s topics discussed:

Last month we discussed:

Topic 1: On the Topic of Remakes/Remasters (creative changes, quality of life changes, content changes and omissions from the original content)

Topic 2: Difficulty in Games (our relation to difficulty encounters in games and how each of us determine what aspect of a game creates the difficulty — “psychological” as one member felt overwhelmed by Zelda BOTW’s boss designs; game design — whether we blame the jankiness of the game or our own ability).

If all this sounds good to you, hope to see you in August! And feel free to reach out in the comments section or by DM for any help, info, or where to successfully locate chicken mole enchiladas in Japan.
