TGDC7 Announced: November 16th, 3:00pm
Details
Pull up a seat at Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club, Meetup Tokyo's (and all of Japan's) only drop-in gaming monthly discussion club!
And next month (or November depending on when you're reading), we’re back. Wow! Like we are…every 30-ish days!
So get ready for Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club Session 7, hereafter known as TGDC7, for another round of freewheeling gaming conversation.
How TGDC works is you can have the chance to drop in and share what you’re playing, any thoughts about gaming, and even if you don’t really play games but are swooned by the ethereal nature of them in the zeitgeist, you’re welcome to contribute all the same too.
Basically TGDC is your favorite gaming podcast, except instead of listening, you yourselves get to be the hosts of it for two hours. And no unskippable ads for premade cooking kits!
The club has only two rules:
1. If you are waiting for Studio Ghibli to full-on develop a video game themselves, this club is for you. If you were totally fine as it is with the Ni no Kuni games, this club is also for you!
2.) (The important one) Now…how to attend (please read this very carefully so you don’t miss our next session!!)
The Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club will meet at exactly 3:00pm in front of Italian Tomato Caffè Vigore, Komaba, the University of Tokyo. I’ll (host) try to get there 10 minutes or so early so you can see me right there to know you’re in the right place for the right thing.
I will be holding a laminated sign of our lovingly human made (non-AI-generated) logo.
Once we gather in front of the cafe at 3:00pm, we will either meet at the cafe or go to another backup location on campus with caffeinated drinks and sweets in hand to guarantee seating, so please gather by my held sign (and self) so we don’t get separated when we head off to our finalized seating!
Apologies again that if you arrive after 3:00pm you may miss our month’s session, as my focus as host will be on holding our session once we begin.
And for a look at how the last session went, here’s a recap of disco points:
Last Month’s TGDC6 Conversation:
- We discussed morality choices, the darned if you do, darned if you don’t, in gaming, citing games such as Unsighted, 1000X Times Resist, and of course, The Last of Us.
- This led us to discussing if multiple endings are a boon or detriment to a gaming experience. For example, softlocking yourself out of the “best” ending within the early hours of a game, vs. the flexibility always to complete prerequisite objectives.
- Off to a Good Start? TGDC6 crew debated about if we want gaming experiences for us to start significantly underpowered, either with a power-up mountain to climb (Metroid, Silksong), restraint baked in (like the Bennett Foddy games), or overpowered out of the gate (Donkey Kong Bonanza).
- Finally, the Switch 2 recent launch had members debating how Nintendo can keep finding the juice for its legacy franchises like Fire Emblem and Pokemon to keep bringing the heat onto a new console. Some TGDC members’ ongoing franchise passion fervently remains, others more cooled off.
If all this sounds good to you, hope to see you on November 16th! Also, TGDC7 is free to attend.
