There are currently hundreds of crypto-token exchanges around the world. Yes, hundreds. So is it really that easy to set up and run a crypto-token exchange? Surely, they all have bank accounts, proper licenses, do strict AML checks and communicate transparently on their activities, right? Unfortunately that isn’t the case, yet millions of individuals and now even institutions are willing to take the risk of trading crypto-tokens on these exchanges with the hope that either everything becomes decentralized or they can benefit from the promised rise in crypto-token prices.

With a changing regulatory environment, hostility from banks and cyber heists of exchange assets continuing to happen, a core contingent of exchanges are working hard to change the negative perception of their activities and make it much safer for their clients to trade. Yet, even these “good guys” face hurdles from the high costs of compliance and the complaints from users about privacy and taxation.

So what kind of exchange will survive - the umcompromising crypto-casino or the regulatory friendly crypto-banks? Will decentralized exchanges and corporate exchanges emerge as challengers? Thomas Glucksmann, crypto-token exchange veteran will try to address these questions and more during his presentation at the Tokyo Fintech Meetup on 28 February. ---
