Brc20s, Runes and Alkanes
BRC20, Runes & Alkane tokens, and a number of other more obscure protocols, form a class of tokens which Bitcoin users compete to mint (by paying transaction fees)
Since March 2023 BRC20, Runes and Alkane tokens, have dominated Bitcoin usage, comsuming roughly 1/5 of Bitcoin Blockspace producede during this period.
And yet their impact is barely discussed and understood.
In this meetup I will share explanations, analytics and insights and discuss the history and the future of these tokens.
Are these tokens senseless spam or do they present on of the greatest unmet opportunities in the Bitcoin and Crypto space? Learn the ground facts for yourself and make up your own mind!
**About the presenter**
Antoine "The Blockspace Baron" is co-founder of Bitcoin Bay, and one of the largest inscribers of Bitcoin Blockspace in the world.

CFI Toronto Hangout: Mondays
As I looked under CFIâs Mission, Vision, and Values, the phrase â**community**â stood out in the opening line. Then, I found it repeated seven more times, all within a short description.
Elsewhere, CFI informs us we run âopenâ and âfriendlyâ discussions in âsafe and hospitableâ environments for everyone. And 'Critical Thinking' is, you might say, the backbone for starting any discussion.
But while we all know what thinking is, how is **critical thinking** different? Especially in matters that are not quantitatively measurable?
As humans, thankfully, we are born curious â we probably wonât have learnt to crawl on four to experience our body and the world around us. We all are capable of being forever-curious â and therefore seeing through the evidence methodically. That is a good start for any talk no matter how complex it may seem. If itâs a human problem, we may not solve it, but surely can think through it critically. Thatâs a big, and hopeful, first step!
Tantalizing? Letâs Talk!

Vibe Coding the Platform: Agentic DevOps with Claude Code & Codex
LLM chat was the warm-up.
Ask a question. Copy. Paste. Tweak.
Useful â but capped.
The real shift is agentic DevOps workflows using tools like Claude Code and the OpenAI Codex App â systems that can reason across repositories, plan multi-step changes, modify infrastructure, and operate closer to how real engineers build.
This session is both 101 and 201.
If youâre new to agentic tooling, youâll understand whatâs fundamentally different from chat-based usage.
If youâre already experimenting, youâll leave with practical agentic patterns for workflow design, context control, infrastructure changes, and avoiding unstructured vibe coding.
Not using agentic tooling in DevOps today is starting to feel like refusing to use the internet in 2003.
This isnât about hype.
Itâs about leverage.
Itâs a great time to be a builder â if you build with agents.
*Come at 5:30 pm have some pizza and chat for a bit. The presentation starts at 6:00 pm.*
ABCD Reads "Educated" by Tara Westover
ABCD Reads "**[Educated](https://tpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S234C3619554)**" by Tara Westover.
([RESULTS](https://opavote.com/results/5133360801513472) of the poll for this event.)
**:: ABOUT THE BOOK ::**
"Tara Westoverâs new tale of escape, Educated, makes [J.D.] Vanceâs seem tame by comparison ... The extremity of Westoverâs upbringing emerges gradually through her telling, which only makes the telling more alluring and harrowing ... It is only when the final, wrenching break from most of her family arrives that one realizes just how courageous this testimonial really is. These disclosures will take a toll. But one is also left convinced that the costs are worth it. By the end, Westover has somehow managed not only to capture her unsurpassably exceptional upbringing, but to make her current situation seem not so exceptional at all, and resonant for many others." (from [BookMarks.reviews](https://bookmarks.reviews/reviews/educated/))
"Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Taraâs older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if sheâd traveled too far, if there was still a way home." (from [Goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35133922-educated))
**:: ABOUT THE EVENT ::**
You are welcome to arrive 30 minutes before the event and stay 30 minutes or longer afterward to connect with other attendees outside the book talk.
Please ensure you have read the book before attending (though finishing any book is not a barrier to participating, as long as you don't mind spoilers).
First-time attendees can join for free. If the event is full, we maintain an unofficial waitlist. Please send [Michael](https://www.meetup.com/members/55295192/) a direct message for more information, in either case.
We request a $3 contribution from regular attendees to help cover our monthly meetup costs.
**:: ABOUT OUR NEXT BOOK ::**
At the end of each event, we will ask for nominees for our next book. If you have a good one in mind, please ensure it is between 200-400 pages long, available from the Toronto Public Library, and counts as contemporary literary fiction (though these are not hard and fast rules). When enough nominees are collected, Michael will send the members a direct message with a link where you can vote.

### Review
âIn Superconvergence, Jamie Metzl takes readers on a magical journey through the science of the intersecting genetics, biotech, and AI revolutions, deeply explores the implications, and challenges us to think creatively and proactively about what comes next. Very few books are absolute must-reads. This is one.ââSiddhartha Mukherjee, assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University and author of The Gene: An Intimate History
"During the 25 years I have known Jamie Metzl, he has always been ahead of the curve. There is no one better to help us understand and prepare for the fast-approaching technological revolutions. Superconvergence is brilliant. I can't recommend it more strongly."âSanjay Gupta MD, bestseller author, neurosurgeon, and Emmy-award winning chief medical correspondent (CNN)
"Our world is defined by our science and technologyâwhether we like it or not. The question now is not whether to use these powers, but how best to use them. In Superconvergence, Jamie Metzl takes us on a journey through the new capabilities that are radically transforming ecosystems inside us and around us, challenging each of us to get personally involved with building the future we want."âBeth Shapiro, University of California Santa Cruz evolutionary biologist and author of Life as We Made It: How 50,000 Years of Human Innovation Refinedâand RedefinedâNature
"In a fine counter-blast to the pessimism of today, Jamie Metzl lays out just how spectacular the future of humanity and planet can be if we harness innovation responsibly and imaginatively to create what he calls the 'spiral of progress.'"âMatt Ridley, author of How Innovation Works, and co-author of Viral: The search for the Origin of Covid-19
âA page-turning journey through space and time that shows us how our lives will be changed by imminent technological advances we once only dreamed of.ââDavid Sinclair, Professor of Genetics, Harvard Medical School, and author of Lifespan: Why We Ageâand Why We Don't Have To
âThe superconvergence of the genetics, biotechnology, and AI revolutions provides spectacular opportunities for building a better world. It also represents an almost limitless investment opportunity. We were excited to collaborate with Jamie Metzl, one of the world's great experts on how these aspirations can best be realized, including in capital markets. Superconvergence is a master class for imagining, investing in, and building a future we'd like to inhabit."âJeremy Schwartz, Global Chief Investment Officer, WisdomTree
âA clear examination of a transitional moment in the story of life on EarthâŚ. Metzl capably describes recent developments in genetics and biotech and looks at how AI is providing an analytical engine of unprecedented powerâŚ. An important book in which the author sets out a path for the future based on his experience and expertise.ââKirkus
âErudite, optimistic, and timely.ââScience Magazine
"[In Superconvergence] Mr. Metzl has identified an important truth: that the convergence of new technologies is galvanizing us to reimagine how to meet urgent challenges in medicine and the environment. Itâs a compelling opportunityâprovided we manage to sidestep self-induced catastrophes along the way."âThe Wall Street Journal

Billy Goat B & C Trails, C&O Towpath - (Rating: C)
You must read the following NVHC Sign-in Sheet Statement/Liability Disclaimer, [https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf](https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf) and then answer the question that you will see when you RSVP with "I accept" to be permitted on the hike.
**8 miles with 450 feet elevation gain.**
***Let's hike Billy Goat C and the recently reopened Billy Goat B trail which has been closed for several years. One of my favorite sections, I'm glad it's back!***
Let's recognize the Juneteenth holiday with beautiful hike along the scenic C&O Canal National Historical Park towpath. This trek will include a hike on Billy Goat B & C trails with great views of the Potomac River, as well as a bit of the Gold Mine trail and Burma Road. This route includes a very scenic section of the towpath.
**Description:**
We'll start our hike on Billy Goat C trail and hike until we connect with the C&O Canal towpath. We'll hike to Anglers Inn area for a break before we connect with Burma Road and a portion of the Gold Mine trail. After that, we're back on the towpath where we will connect to the Billy Goat B trail. After completing Billy Goat B, we'll then connect back to the towpath and return to the trailhead parking.
***Note:*** Billy Goat B and C each have a stream crossing which are fairly easily crossed by stone stepping.
The pace will be about 2.5 mph.
**Bring:**
Adequate water/hydration, snacks/lunch, and sturdy hiking shoes since there are some rocky areas and tree roots on both Billy Goat B & C.
Restrooms are available at the Carderock Picnic Area parking lot where we start as well as at Anglers Inn parking. Hiking poles may be useful if you normally use them. Recommend sunscreen and insect repellent.
**Trailhead:**
We will meet in the Carderock Picnic Grounds parking lot in Carderock Recreation Area.
Please plan on being there at 8:45am so we can get everyone signed in and start the hike on time.
**Dogs are welcome.**

NOVA Brain Computing â DC's Only Community at the BrainâMachine Frontier
**The Neural Revolution Is Happening Right Now â Are You Plugged In?**
Imagine typing with your thoughts. Steering a robotic limb with a neural signal. Lifting depression by stimulating a single brain circuit. Loading a skill straight into memory.
This isn't science fiction. It's happening in labs, clinics, and startups around the world â and the DC region, home to NIH, the BRAIN Initiative, and DARPA's neural-interface programs, is one of the places it's being funded and built.
**This Event Is for You IfâŚ**
* â
You're a **technologist** curious about the computing paradigm beyond screens and keyboards
* â
You work in **healthcare** and want to see how neural interfaces will reshape patient care
* â
You're an **entrepreneur** hunting the next real opportunity in deep tech
* â
You're a **researcher** looking to plug into the broader BCI ecosystem
* â
You're simply **fascinated** by where neuroscience and technology collide
* â
You **missed our last meetup** and want to reconnect with the community
**Why That List Makes Us Unique in DC**
Read it again. A technologist, a clinician, a founder, a researcher, and the merely curious â in the same room, on the same afternoon.
That mix is the whole point, and it's what no other event in the region offers. Neuroscience conferences are built for neuroscientists. AI meetups are built for engineers. Healthcare summits are built for clinicians. Each one serves a single silo.
Brain computing doesn't live in any one of those silos â it lives in the overlap. So we built the one community in DC dedicated to that overlap: a place where the person decoding neural signals can talk to the person who'll commercialize the device, who can talk to the clinician who'll put it in front of a patient.
**What You'll Walk Away With**
This isn't just another tech meetup. Because of who's in the room, you get:
* **Frontline insight** from people actively decoding neural signals
* **Direct access** to the scientists, engineers, and founders pushing BCI forward â not a panel behind a rope line
* **Hands-on work** with real neural data and BCI systems
* **Career connections** in one of the fastest-growing fields in tech
* **First looks** at breakthrough research before it reaches mainstream media
**The Stakes Are Real**
We're at an inflection point. The next decade decides whether brain-computer interfaces *expand* human potential or *deepen* inequality â whether they're built in the open or behind closed doors, whether the benefits are shared or hoarded.
Your voice, your expertise, your perspective shapes which future we get.
**Join the Minds Shaping Tomorrow**
This is your entry point into the neural-interface revolution â your chance to stand alongside the researchers reading neural code, the engineers building the interfaces, the clinicians treating patients, and the founders bringing it all to market.
**Saturday, June 13 ¡ 12:00â3:00 PM** isn't just a meetup. It's the one place in DC where all of those people come together around brain computing.
**Come curious. Leave connected. Return transformed.**
Because the future of human-computer interaction isn't happening *to* you â it's happening *with* you.
