Chan style Tai Chi revision
In this lesson you'll learn the techniques of Chen Style Tai Chi movements.
Chen style Tai Chi (陳式太極) is a more active form of Tai Chi with much faster and explosive power movements emulate a more realistic application of the martial arts techniques
You need to be physically fit to practise this style with a balance between hard and soft, fast and slow, and able to learn the fast, explosive movements.
Chen style Tai Chi (陳式太極) is the original Tai Chi style reflecting its martial art origin and techniques, It is artistic and rich in combat technique, as well as characterized by soft and vigorous movements combined. It features dynamic punches, internal power and spiral force
* The Chen style of Tai Chi uses some explosive and fast moves - like jump kicks. This may be out of the fitness range of some people.
* If you're already fairly fit or athletically inclined (or looking for a more exciting form of Tai Chi) consider the Chen style.
* The Chen style uses wide, expansive movements that can be hard on the knees and lower back muscles.
I have been practicing Tai Chi continuous for ten years and hope to share and provide guidance in regular training classes.

April show pitch workshop
Borders
Our host, Jenn, is looking for stories about borders.
A physical barricade. A social stigma. A self-imposed ideal. What borders have you had to cross? We’re looking for true, first-person stories about getting past whatever’s in your way, or at least trying your darndest to.
The *Borders* live storytelling show is on Thursday, 30th April. If you’ve got a story or just an idea in mind, come to one of our pitch workshops at the beginning of April. If your story is shortlisted for the show, our host will work with you as you polish and rehearse it.
📌 Story Requirements:
* Your story must be true
* It must be told in the first person—you are the main character
* It should be between 5-10 minutes
You don't need to have a completed or polished story ready - just a beginning idea is okay.
This workshop is open to individuals at all levels, first-timers or old hands.
The purpose of Hong Kong Stories is to help you become a better storyteller.
Everyone has a story to tell, and everyone loves a story.
Note: Please update your RSVP, ideally 12 hours before the event if you're unable to make it.
Repeated no shows will be moved to not-going / removed from the group to open up slot for people on the waitlist.
Easy Walk/Ruck @ Kowloon
**Location:** Kowloon
**Duration:** 90 Minutes
**Difficulty:** Accessible to ALL (Self-paced intensity)
***
**The Mission**
In the world of first responders, "slow is smooth, and smooth is fast." While high-intensity training gets the glory, **Zone 2 Heart Rate training** is the silent engine that powers human performance.
This session, hosted by **TacticalFitnessHK**, is designed to build your aerobic base—the foundation that allows you to recover faster, stay calm under pressure, and sustain physical output for longer durations without burning out.
### What to Expect
This is not a "balls-to-the-wall" sprint session. We are training for **longevity and resilience**.
* **Briefing (10 mins):** We’ll start with a short talk from our founders (local first responders) on why aerobic capacity is critical for emergency preparedness and mental clarity.
* **The "Talk Test" Jog/Walk (60 mins):** We will move as a group in Kowloon. The goal is to keep your heart rate between **60-70% of your maximum**. You should be able to hold a full conversation—this is where the community building happens!
* **Knowledge Share & Cool Down (20 mins):** We’ll wrap up with light mobility work and a Q&A session on emergency kits, situational awareness, and staying "ready" in an urban environment like Hong Kong.
***
### Why Zone 2?
For first responders and prepared citizens alike, Zone 2 training:
1. **Improves Mitochondrial Efficiency:** Teaches your body to burn fat as a primary fuel source.
2. **Enhances Recovery:** Helps clear lactate faster after high-intensity bursts.
3. **Protects the "Soul":** Lower-intensity steady-state movement is proven to reduce cortisol (stress) and improve mental health.
### Who Should Join?
**Everyone.** While we are founded by first responders to support the frontline assets, we believe a resilient city requires a resilient community. Whether you are a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, we welcome you to join our ranks.
### What to Bring
* Comfortable running/walking shoes.
* A heart rate monitor or smartwatch (optional—we can teach you the "Talk Test" method).
* Water (hydration is key even at lower intensities).
* An open mind and a spirit for community.
***
**Ready to build your foundation?** Click "Join" to reserve your spot. We train rain or shine.
Write Night in HK!
Welcome to Write Night in HK!
This is an evening writing group with an after-work drink! We'll meet at Yardley Taproom in Central (62 Peel Street), as they typically have a pretty good and chilled out vibe in the week-day evenings.
We write and we share writing - please bring 6-8 printed copies of your work (max 2 pages).
The evening group will run differently from the daytime group - we'll do some writing and give each other feedback on our own prior work. So, the evening will go in two parts:
1. We start with a 20 min writing exercise, based on a prompt - bring something to write or type on! Then we'll share and give feedback.
2. We go over any written material you've done before and care to share with us: 2 x full printed pages at most (maybe a bit more if spaced out, such as with poetry). Please bring around 6-8 print-outs. Remember that the place may be a bit noisy - so may be hard for people to hear you if you read your work out loud to others on the night.
A note on feedback - please be prepared to offer constructive, nice and supportive feedback. No 'brutal honesty' please. Most people are just getting started, and positive support is the order of the night for this group.
The official finish time is 9pm, but feel free to hang around for a bit of mid-week socialising with fellow creatives if you like.
Many thanks, and have a great night!
Cheers,
Roger
Visit Tsing Shan Monastery - 青山禪院
**Tsing Shan Monastery - 青山禪院 in Tuen Mun** is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Hong Kong, Tsing Shan hosts 3 famous buildings the Pui To Pagoda, Tsing Wan Koon, and the Tsing Shan Temple.
Some say the temple site originated as far back as the Jin dynasty (265–420 AD) but most scholars believe the site was developed during the Song (960-1279 AD). The monastery's history was later recounted in the Dongguan Gazetteer in 1464 and the Xinan Gazetteer in 1688 and 1819. Including historical structures and beautiful artifacts, the gate also features a famous Shiwan 石湾镇街道 ceramic arch, which is considered a treasure.
We'll gather at Siu Hong MTR Station and jump on the Light Rail to the temple. One thing to note, there are steps! I mean A LOT of steps. I haven't counted them, but let's just say that if you're not ready for them, they can be a "transcendent experience". Please wear comfy shoes! You've been warned...
We'll be gathering at the Siu Hong MTR station at Exit C1/C2, which is the Light-rail station there. Once we're all together, we'll get on the 610 tram to Tien Mun Ferry Terminal, alighting at the Tsing Shan Tsuen stop, which is about 15 minutes away. Please remember that the Siu Hong MTR station is about an hour from Tsim Sha Tsui, so plan your trip accordingly. We'll leave the MTR station at about 9:40, so if you miss is just proceed downstairs to the light rail station and catch up. The GPS coordinates for the monastery are: [22.391955556253773, 113.9594697114356](22.391955556253773, 113.9594697114356).
PS. Added Bonus! This is one of the filming locations for the iconic Bruce Lee film 'Enter the Dragon' 1973 and the famous "finger pointing" lesson. Click [here](https://youtu.be/4O9o4CKTGzQ?si=Zzhl2yS1jNOx6UeP) to refresh your memory.

WHAT IS A TABLETOP RPG?
It's a game in which you never know where the next stop will be, because it’s all down to the decisions you and your fellow players make. Usually one person is the Game Master (or "GM"). Everyone else will be players, taking the role of the characters in the game. The players get to say what their characters say, think, and do. The GM describes everything else in the world.
Then... we play to find out what happens. The game is a conversation: I say something, then you reply, maybe someone else chimes in. We talk about what's happening to the characters we imagine and the world around them. We also talk about the rules, which help us decide what happens next if the next step is in doubt. The rules differ from game to game: some use dice to shape the story, others use cards or something else. It's always a conversation, though.

Risky Business
...and speaking of breakthrough roles: who can forget the first time we saw Tom Cruise singing Bob Seeger in his underwear? Often considered an updated 1983 version of The Graduate, the movie sparkles with memorable lines and original music. I only regret that I was never told that "Princeton could use someone like Bob..."

Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking!
• What we'll do
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros.
10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour.
11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing.
OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you!
• What to bring
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible.
See you at The Café on Saturday!
Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games!
The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
